My father was a company Captain, with an Italian-American 2nd in command, and his enlisted men were all African Americans. They drove faster than the Germans could believe. He landed D-Day plus One and they went all the way to Germany, dealt with werewolves (German Soldiers in civilian clothing, murdered, sabotage), and then was part of the occupation force. He had the highest respect for the men under his command.

Thanks for posting this. Unsung heroes, there were and are so many. Merchant sailors, factory workers, medics... In the British Army the Pioneer Corps did this sort of work along with building bridges, making smoke screens, defusing mines and booby traps, building airfields, organising civilian labour to clean up devastated towns and villages, connecting vital utilities like water and electricity, burying dead and a thousand other jobs, including being Infantry, and handling POW's, many dirty, unpleasant, thank less and often having to sleep in ditches to avoid German shell fire and shrapnel falling from AA gunfire. Just like the men portrayed in this film. . My Father was a Pioneer soldier, later an officer. Three times by accident he crossed into German lines and claims the world record for turning round a Willis Jeep. Some of his men were killed. Mostly though he would only tell the funny stories

It would be great to get a copy of this on DVD.! never found it on VHS back in the day. Those CCKW's were rated 2 1/2 tons for cross country travel and 5 tons for roads, max speed about 45 mph , Military didn't care about speed just that the truck got there . They built about 500,000 of all types cargo trucks, dump trucks, radio and communications trucks, repair shop's , printing and photo developing trucks ,air compressor trucks, tanker trucks,laundry and cook trucks,and a very rare air-portable model.

Great WWII movie. Don't remember that one. I really enjoyed the camaraderie of the blacks & whites together, even though it may not have been very accurate for that time. If it wasn't that way, then it certainly should have been. Every movie like that makes me extremely grateful and very proud of every soldier in that war that made the ultimate sacrifice so others like myself could still be enjoying our freedom. Every one of them was a hero.

I've never liked movies that take a major historic event in history and made it into a series of personal stories. I could watch Payton Place and get more of a plot. Sorry for the negative opinion as this is an old movie and still is much better than the garbage coming out these days.
