This last weekend actor Bo Hopkins was in Modesto, California for the 39th anniversary celebration of the movie, American Graffiti.

American Graffiti was based on George Lucas' experiences growing up in Modesto which is the reason the town celebrates the movie every year in June.

Blog Planet caught up with Bo Hopkins at one of Modesto's several American Graffiti Car Shows in order to bring you this interview with the TV and Film legend.

Bo Hopkins has appeared in more than one hundred film and television roles in a career of more than forty years, including The Bridge at Remagen, The Wild Bunch, The Getaway, American Graffiti, White Lightning, Radioland Murders, The Killer Elite, Midnight Express, More American Graffiti and A Small Town in Texas. When Gretchen Corbett left The Rockford Files television series in 1978, Hopkins as "John Cooper" replaced her character as Rockford's attorney for several episodes, arguably Hopkins' most memorable role in well over a hundred TV and movie appearances.
Bo Hopkins' first major role in a film was in White Lightning, a 1973 cult classic that also starred Burt Reynolds and Ned Beatty. Bo Hopkins played Roy Boone, Gator McClusky's (played by Burt Reynolds) sidekick during much of the film.
Jerry Reed played Bama McCall in the sequel to White Lightning called Gator. Jerry Reed and Bo Hopkins bore a striking resemblance to one another, hence they played brothers Joe Hawkins and Tom Hawkins in the film What Comes Around.
In 1981, he appeared in the first season of the prime-time drama Dynasty as Matthew Blaisdel. Hopkins' many guest appearances on television include episodes of Gunsmoke, Bonanza, The Virginian, Nichols, The Rat Patrol, The Mod Squad, Hawaii Five-O, Charlie's Angels, Fantasy Island, The A-Team, Scarecrow and Mrs. King, The Fall Guy, Crazy Like a Fox and Murder, She Wrote. Hopkins has a role in the video game Nuclear Strike. He plays Colonel LeMonde, a mercenary who steals a nuclear weapon. The 'Strike' team tracks him through Southeast Asia.

In Virginia Beach Mel's was Shoney's Big Boy, you cruised Atlantic Blvd. and Paradise Road was "The Five Mile Stretch". American Graffiti was magic. It was Americana of the highest order. Saw Bo, Cindy, & Candy at Daytona Rod Show a couple years ago, but didn't talk to them. I might have been "one of those". ; )

Emil: I love the the icons of the '50s as u mentioned Wolfman, carhops, drive-in movies. However, I'd much rather live now than any other time in history. As u mentioned, "drugs, guns, lesbians and gay parades," by doing so u r hyper focusing on certain things. I'm certainly glad people no longer need to hide their values ie., being gay. There are many gay people throughout history who had to hide their true selves. '50-60s' actor Rock Hudson was gay (but had to keep it a secret), FBI director, J.Edgar Hoover, was a cross dresser, to name but a only a few. The advantages of living today are awesome. We can access the computer and research anything in a matter of seconds, and we can watch movies at home, including American Graffiti anytime we want. All the medical advances are enormous: People live longer than they did in the '50s and '60s, people with anxiety, bi-polar disorder, ADHD, psychosis, etc. can live productive lives thanks to medication. These are but a few examples of how things are so much better and represent what "real America" is about.

30 Little Known Facts about American Graffiti Movie. This year is the 50th Anniversary of the American Graffiti Movie, it was released in 1973 a year after I was born. So I never was able to see it on the big screen until this last weekend at my home town movie theatre and it was just awesome to see again (it had been awhile).

The only trivia or facts that I knew about this movie from the past was that George Lucas used the proceeds from this film to bank roll his idea of the Star Wars movie. And he used some of the cast that really stood out in this movie to be used in Star Wars as well. So when I started researching these 30 Facts I'm right there with you in learning new things.

Oh also one other interesting thing I heard on the radio the other day was that George Lucas said in an interview recently that all of the main characters in the American Graffiti movie is either him or touched his life in his earlier years. So wow after hearing that it really makes you think back about the cast in that movie... and I just can't stop thinking was he really like Toad?
