When you take in to account all the man/hrs, cost of the billet, cost of cad design, programming the machines+ maintenance of the various milling tools it makes good sense. lol.

yes, molten metal is poured in to a mold then solidifies to make the general casting of the piston(s) Then the machining process begins.
