We need to get this going again! (RC racing)
I used to race in the RC Mini-Z series at Hobbytown USA a few years back. It was a lot of good, cheap fun. I made this video for the store then:
YouTube - Mini-z RC Car Racing, IN-CAR CAMERA!
Video gets much better at about 1:18
But for some reason, no matter how popular the race series was, we just didn't seem to get support from the owners of the store. They wanted our track gone so the dungeons and dragons nerds had somewhere to play or something like that.

Seriously ? What kinda speeds do the brushless motors get up to ? for 200 bucks I can get a nitro RC that will do 70 + mph.And its more or less the idea of the tiny combustion motor powering the car that makes it a little fun.
There are only like 2 ready to run nitro cars that can even approach 60 out of the box.. and they are over 300.
Brushless could do 60 pretty easily in a a touring car though. And the batteries would last twice as long as a tank of fuel lol.
I have a brushless mini t and that little bastard will fly. Also Have an RC10GT and losi XXX-S
My friend is sponsored by CEN and placed 2nd in the state for 1/8th scale buggy. If you wanna see fast, its those things.. 4wd with a big ass engine. They FLY.

talk to spooncivic he loves them..but yes nitro cant keep up with brushless for around 400 you can buy a brusless system that will do close to 80 WITH NO up keep like nitro where you gotta clean it and tune it all the time.. with a lipo battery you can run a brushless car for good 45mins with alot of runs, but with nitro you gotta refill and shit....brushless is the future and will just keep getting faster

i used to race 1:10 scale electric touring cars. YEARS AGO! It was fun at organized racing events and I did pretty good back then, and I've had a nitro car as well. But after zipping around a parking lot for an hour, nitro gets boring. Unless you are racing....and with nitro you have to spend tons of $ to keep up with the faster cars out there. Seems nitro classes bring out all the high rollers when it comes to RC. So it takes the fun out of racing for the average casual racer. Just like real racing. All about the big $.
Thats what I liked about mini-z. They are cheap, they are clean, and you can race them anywhere. They are pretty hard to drive well, so mod'd or stock everyone has a fair chance.
What's cool about the mini-z, is that you can race on your lunch break at work in the back office or break room floor. Yes, nitro and 1:10 scale is better, but you can't race anytime, anywhere with them.
I started this site YEARS ago when we were actively racing.

Here is a custom Z's I built using plastic model car body.:
