i want yo drive that .... now
It has a shifter on the floor. But the car I drove was still an automatic. It has syntrifical clutch kind of set up with no clutch pedal. You can chose gears using paddles or floor shifter or leave it in auto. The shifts are really slow and it feels as though it "slips" into gear no matter how you shift it. But I was told by the SMART folks that the US spec SMART will be offered with a standard manual trans in later models to come. I'd imagine that would make it much more fun to drive.
The thing handled pretty well, and it was fun to drive in a hot rod golf cart kind of way. For short inner city commutes it would be a blast. It was actually suprisingly quick for a tiny rollerskate but I wouldn't say its faster than your average econobox or anything.
