So let me get this right. Vtec gives hondas no more power than non vtec? It simply changes the timing so the car gets good gas mileage? Correct me if im wrong plz, im a domestic guy. But if thats the case then why are people so proud of sporting vtec badges everywhere? Hell I see all kinds of cars with cooler shit than that like automatic windshield wipers, and nightvision. Flaunting that your car changes from a ultimate MPG driver to a gas hogging slowmobile is supposed to be cool?

No there is two types of VTEC and depending on the manufacturer they vary.

Most of the time its not about gas mileage. Think of it has haveing Duel cam profiles. Most of the time a small engine car starves for air top end So like on a GSR Si or ITR They have VTEC. What its really doing After 5k rpm the oil pressure kicks in a 3rd rocker arm (sorta) this arm is attached to both arms on the one side of the valves train per cyl. Once this is engadged you basicly flip over to a Higher lift lob and duration cam shaft. A VTEC cam has 3 lobs per cyl. 2 standard for the diuel valves then the 3rd VTEC Lobe tht engadges Both Valves for the higher lift. And you know cams with higher lift longer duration can pull more air hence burnin more fuel and addin more HP. Now an E-VTEC in a Honda is designed to flow better air top end for better gas mileage because such a small engine can suck enough air to have a good mpg. Thats a quick short explination. Basicly its like having 2 cams in one. Now on Toyota VVT-i it also controls timing for a tune on the fly effect. NIssan has a couple versions. Honda has the VTEC -i now that does timing. GM has VVT-E in the I6 thats in the New Mid Size truck and the SUV i cant think of the names i just woke up. The Olds aurora Has it in the V8. lotsa cas have it not just honda.

very nice, an SR20VE isnt exactly a cheap motor, dont they cost more than the FWD SR20DET? and I like how you can see where the second set of cams came into play, but if you look on www.nissanperformancemag.com they have an SR20VE setup with a cam timer that lets it change over when you want it to

I paid $1500 for the motor. Its only got 10k miles on it though. I have both cams set at the same rpm, that first time is just the guy flooring the car. I'm using an msd rpm switch and rpm selector for the cam switchover.
