This still doesn't answer my tranny question... Has 5 gears or was cruising quietly in 2nd????

 

It's a 5 speed, same transmission as mine, most escorts had 5 speeds except the pony's which were the bottom line.

FYI- I trap at 69-70 mph in the 1/8th mile in 2nd gear, which is basically redline for that gear.

1st- 30-35
2nd- 65-70
3rd- ~95
4th - ~120
5th- 120+
