Default How does the rear view mirror release?

1995 F250

Trying to replace an old crappy rear view mirror with a new one.
However, I can not get it to release so I can put the new one on.

My intent is to retain the peice glued to the windshield.

I "thought" all I needed to do was slide a small flathead into to slot onj the bottom, and it would release... not so much

Here's a pic from the outside of the windshield looking in.... how do I get it to release?

This is for a ranger but they might be the same.
<li id="jsArticleStep1">1
Loosen the set screw located in the Ranger's rear view mirror mount using your Allen wrench set.
<li id="jsArticleStep2"> 2
Slide the tip of the thin screwdriver between the rear view mirror mount and the metal button on the windshield to pop the retaining tab loose.
<li id="jsArticleStep3"> 3
Grab the Ranger's rear view mirror with both hands and pull on it to slide it off the metal button on the windshield. You may need to jiggle the screwdriver around in the space between the mirror mount and the metal button to keep the retaining clip from preventing you from pulling the mirror off.

Some of them have the part glued to the windshield and the outer arm with the mirror slide UP and come right off.

Judging by the picture it looks like the mirror was repaired and the previous owner got some adhesive on the mirror. Your only soluition is to remove the entire mirror and reattach it. Good luck!
