More lift or not?

Default More lift or not?

I am kicking around the idea of adding a few more inches of lift to my truck.

It currently has an 8" FabTech lift with an additional 2 inches in the rear via F-350 blocks.
As you can see in the pic below, it sits a little jacked up (the rear is visibly higher than the front).

FabTech has 3.5 inch hanger extensions that I can put on the front that would give me plenty of clearance for 40's, vice the 37's I currently have on it.

My biggest concern is towing.
It is already a challenge to tow with it this high, I fear that making it even higher my basically disable my tow ability.

With my 14" drop hitch, trailers still tend to sit low in the rear.
Going from 37's to 40's is just going to make it that much worse.

So what to do..... lift it more, or stay where it is and actually go back to the F-250 blocks (this will drop the tail about 2 inches)?

personally i think it already looks like a sweet truck, no need to lift it anymore.

Like I said before, put the f250 blocks back in to bulldog it a little bit, and it'll look great and you're trailor won't be low in the rear..

40s are going to kill any power that it has, there is quite a bit more rolling mass to them over 37s. If I were towing I'd be at about 6" or just a 350 w/ leveling kit and 35s. It's a nice looking truck don't get me wrong but you have to decide if you want to tow or show, I notice a difference from 33s to 35s on my friends CTD and he's laying down 1000 ft lbs of torque w/ 4.10 gears and a hand shaker. A 14" drop with that enclosed trailer is risky IMO. A little sway with anything over 8K lbs and it'll snap that CNC drop in 1/2 like nothing (seen em bend many times in my business). I've towed a lot and anything over 35s puts the powerstroke under much stress w/ it's 3.73 gears. What gears are you running? What is the weight of the trailer? How far do you tow? This will help answer your question.

if you re-gear to whatever tire size you go with..it will be like having a stock truck..people tend to not re-gear or put the wrong size gear when putting on bigger tires..it will definitely help..heres a chart..

i would go with the gear size that says Near Factory Ratio..for your truck now i would go with 4:88s or 5:13s to compensate for the 20s..

Thanks guys.

The truck is re-geared with 4:56 gearing.
It also has a BANKS power upgrade getting it to nearly 400hp and 700 foot pounds of torque.

I typically tow one of three trailers:

The 16 foot open with up to about 3,000 pounds of equipment (about 5K pounds total) or,
The 24 foot enclosed setting at about 7-8K pounds total, or
The 33 foot light weight camper.

The distance is approximately 600 miles each way.

I also have a billet adjustable 10" drop that is rated higher than my steel 14" drop.... but it really creates a bad angle for the trailers.

Id drop back to the 2" block. A raked truck looks... eh. What is your reason for wanting 40s? Im sure you dont need the extra clearance.. I would stay with the 37s and keep the truck practical. I ride on a set of 35s since I use the bed of the truck everyday.

Also, the 40s will kill the 4.56 gear. Its a big difference from a 37 to 40 and not regearing. I have 4.88s with 35s, but Im also a little gasser.

Lowing the back two inches.
Going to re-install the F250 blocks, vice the F350 blocks.... the F250 blocks are about 2 inches shorter.

Mission Accomplished!

Changed the oil, rotated the tires and swapped out the 4" blocks for 2" blocks in the rear.
Thought about going with no blocks, but wanted to see how it would look with these.
It actually sits level now, maybe slightly bull-dogged.
