LS1 into a toyota pickup truck
I've had my 94 toyota pick up truck for a while now and i absolutely love it. the 22RE is the definition of a reliable motor. however, i may no longer have to use my truck as my daily driver, so i'd like to do a badass engine swap to make it an offroad monster. I believe the LS1 would be the perfect choice:
1. all aluminum lightwieght (maintain weight dist)
2. readily available powertrain for a good price
2. easy 400 hp with a cam/valvetrain upgrade
3. Torque monster!!!!
I'm curious to see if anyone knows of a shop, or forum where i can find someone who has dome something similar. I know that i can get the engine/ecu/harness, and custom mounts/headers. however i cant find any aftermarket support for a transmission conversion piece, or if there is an aftermarket transmission that will work with an LS1. any help would be awesome. thanks.

with my 89 i was able to use a 350, just had to do a body lift to clear the motor. but it bolts right up to the toyota transmission and transfer case. if you wanted to go that route, its not that hard. I dont know how the ls1 would be, but would be pretty sick.

Are you really that worried about weight distrubtion? You will be spending around $2k just for a motorset. You can go a lot cheaper getting a truck motor. They are same cept the trucks are iron block.

It's already nose-heavy...(just they way it is) and with an empty bed, much more motor and the back won't have any traction... but I see where you're coming from... also the 350 swap isn't popular, but is done quit often, but If you're going for power; though the stock drivetrain will mate up, it may not handle all that you wnat to put through it... there, that was way too long, but I hope this helps.....
i think he meant the 5.3's, not the gen 1 350's.
