My truck is finally done
minus the lockdown system that will electronically lock my chair in place, but i went down yesterday and got in it so that they could mark the mounting location for it and get it installed. I should be getting it back tomorrow or mon/tues at the latest.
For those of you who aren't aware of my condition, on 11-28-04 i was in a terrible bike accident which left me a paraplegic paralyzed from a hair above my nipples down.
Some of you may have read the thread Sean (PoppaSmurf) posted the evening it happened: You Need To Read This, Everyone - Tampa Forums
The story is in a blog on my TF profile titled "Motorcycles Suck".
But i have only been home like 1yr 2months. And in May i was actually working on a deal to buy a van to have modified to be wheelchair accessible and well, that came to an abrupt stop when i ran an online searh for local places to do the work. One of the return descriptions said something about doing a 6" Suspension lift on 2wd Nissan Titans (which i really wanted) so naturally the automotive side of me said
and checked it out. Well boy was i in for a surprise and i must have spent following hour or so doing nothing but checking out the site. WHY DRIVE A VAN? DRIVE A RYNO TRUCK!! .
It turns out that they modify 03+ Ext. Cab Nissan Titan's & GMC/Chevy 1500, 2500, & 3500 series trucks to be wheelchair accessible.
They give it a bodylift, drop the driver or passengerside floor, install hand controls, a system for your chair to be locked into and then install a Braun UVL (under vechicle lift). Here is the video from their site that shows how it works I saved it to my comp and loaded it to youtube but will be making my own w/my truck asap.
Well, the 2500 is the only one they get enough clearance floor-roof for my tall as to fit in. So i got them to send their 2500 demo truck up to my house so i could make sure i fit before buying a truck to have done. And then the search began for an 03+ 2500 Ext Cab & i managed to find one w/only 42,000 miles on the auto trades site over in Brandon at James Rivard Pontiac, GMC in like new condition for $18,980. I ran CARFAX and it came back clean and has lived its life in the area. I then ran the NADA and it came back as $22k. Well they do wholesale to the public at the dealership, so needless to say, i picked it up.
Its an 03' 2500HD LS 2wd w/ spotless tan interior and an almost spotless body (it has one small ding in the talegate) sitting on 285/75/16 BF Goodrich A/T's which are according to the info i have are 33x11
interior before the mods: (only real difference now is no driver seat and the center console/seat is now a lockable center console that isnt as wide)
& Yes, the rear seat can still be folded down to sit in once i am in it. So it will sit atleast 5 people including myself.

What it looks like from the outside now:

They said that customers have put 35" tires on them and only had to trim the black plastic on the bottom of the bumper for them to fit. They also said that even with a 6" suspension lift that the lift will reach the ground as it has like 36" of travel. So, who wants to buy me a lift kit and larger tires as early x-mas & bday presents?
That means i wouldnt ask you for anything else till xmas 07 as my bday is sept 1st.

As i previously mentioned, the tires on it now are 287/75/16's (which measure 33x11) and they were on there when i purchased it in may & are like new since the truck was only driven from the dealership in brandon to my house and to the store a few times before it went in the shop.
And currently living off of SS, i only have like $170 per month left after paying my bills every month which is why i plan on getting a job asap so i can buy the wheels & some tires after i get some saved up but bills come first. And i am about to have less than that a month as soon as all of the modification & parts & myself are added to the insurance.
(my mom is currently the only driver listed for it so that it would only be $70 a month until the work was done.)
But the biggest tires the place that is selling them has for the rims are 265/75/16(31x10). And the only ones they sell that i like are the Nitto Terra Grappler AT's and they are $1176 mounted and shipped to my door. But i atleast want some 33x12.50's
These are the wheels.

you buying them & some wheels for them to fit on? Because incase you didn't read the part of the reply w/the wheels, i am currently living off my social security which is only $670 a month. And after paying my cell, truck payment, and insurance i only have $170 left every month which isnt much to go out on which is why im going to get a job asap. Since i live w/mom & dad now, i dont have rent. But my insurance is about to go up because at the moment i only have mom on the insurance which is why its so cheap. But, part of the deal of getting Vocational Rehab to pay for the work was that i would get the work & parts insured. So its about to go up when i add that stuff plus add myself as a driver. Luckily the accident isn't on my driving record so i have nothing on it in the past almost 2 yrs. The cop that showed up on scene told my mom that he though i had suffered enough so he wasnt going to write it up unless his supervisor made him do it.
So thankfully, thats not on there so maybe it won't be way expensive. Plus i just turned 25 in september.

Or maybe i should get some of these which are 10" wide instead of 8. but they arent from the same place. Not to mention brake dust won't make them look as dirty seeing as how i have 4-wheel disc brakes.

marks up when i make suggestions like that in here since most of you don't know me as i had mainly been racing nissan cars before my accident. Because anyone that actually knows me, knows that i would rather pay my own way than have someone else buy things for me. Hence the
after my 2nd post which involved buying me a lift kit. Granted it may take a little time to save up for the wheels & tires but i do plan on getting some and i would respect myself more if I paid for them rather than taking someones charity.
sorry for any misunderstanding

That guys a real dick if he thinks you were serious about people buying you stuff. Either that or he can't read. I got it though. That shit was funny. These guys are really hooking up that big Chevy for you. Sucks about your situation but at least your making the best of it and driving something fun. Good luck! Enjoy it and get some more pics when you make it bigger. Oh and tell Smurf that Adrian say's what's up and I'll call him soon.
