They are ditching the 6.0, for a 6.4 compound turbo, but it's till made by international, just like the 6.0, 7.3, 7.3 IDI (pre power stroke), and 6.9. They make great engines, no doubt.. I'd be weary of getting a first year 6.4 because it's going to be even more complex than the 6.0.

Navistar has made the Ford Diesels for years . As far as for my "EXPERT Opinion" I have been in the car transport / towing industry for Almost 6 years . And without fail it seems that GM should stick to the 1/2 ton market , I have nothing against GM in general its just that without fail the 3500s are too light in the front for towing , they are underbraked . Ive been through 3 3500 chevy wreckers . A 95 , 98 ,04 and they have all been wayy too weak for the task at hand . As for my buddy he has had the same F350 with a power stroke 7.3 and it worked circles around all of mine . This may be different in dually 5th wheel world I dont know (never had the fun of towing a 50 foot gooseneck ) I just have never had any luck with GM's medium duty trucks , now if you want to move on to the 6500's with the CAT motor I am all for them . As for the Fords I have been a pretty stern Ford guy but I also currently own a Chevy and a Dodge too . I just left a guys house earlier today that just traded in his 05 chevy 4500 crew pickup with a Duramax for a 06 Ram with a cummins due to the thousand transmission and engine problems he has had . The dealer told him that that was the third one in 6 months they had gotten in . I am in no way racially biased when it comes to vehicles , I am just speaking from past experiences . Honestly when the Chevy trucks first came out a local towing company replaced 7 of their trucks with them and this was in mid 04 . By last month they had just gotten rid of the last one and went to new Freightliners , again due to the problems with the Chevy trucks . I guess no ones opinion but the person who drives the vehicle should matter anyway , so choose whatever vehicle you feel comfortable with . Because in the end you are the one who has to drive it . Happy motoring - Joe

If your looking for speed, dont buy a diesel.... j/p if your looking for speed dont buy a 7.3. If your looking for 18-23 mpg and something that can tow anything you can throw at it, plus not lose hp or torque at altitude, or be a maintenance nightmare.. Buy a 7.3, i bought my 96 f250 a couple months back and have not had a single problem with it at all. plus it was extremly affordable 6 gs out the door, with all the maintenance records, and the original window sticker in the glove box

intersting. i like speed. but how many mods are you talking about to the 7.3 to get any speed. also, what is your definition of speed, just so we are on the same page. with these mods you have done what kind of mpg are you getting? thanks
