New to the board. 2003 F150
Just picked up this (2003 R/C STX F150 Flareside 5.4 V
last week.
Almost pulled the trigger on a 05 super crew but just about fell over when I saw this on the used lot. Lots of potential is to be had.
I have the regular list of quick mods I will get done in the next month....20"x9 wheels front, 20"x10 rear. Headers, then a cat back exaust. Chipped. New intake system. Will decide after the new wheels how far it will get lowered. All the decals and such are coming off. Removal of the chrome step.
If anyone is familiar with mods for a 5.4 I would like to hear from you. Also any help in areas shops that can do some work. I am on the North end of Tampa.
Link to pictures.
Thanks all.

Long tubes are they way to go for headers, there really isn't that much potential to a N/A 5.4. Nothing like a chevy, 5.3 Heads cam, exhaust 450 hp. Heads are rare on these and cams, well thats about 1 grand easy. Some claim that long tubes intake and chip will net you a good amount of power but ehhh... try www.troyerperformance.com . also e fans clean up the parasteic (spelling) loss from a clutch driven fan.
I would really suggest that you go to these two sites.
http://fordtruckworld.tenmagazines.com/
this site has a lot of info specifically for our engines. If you join the Florida chapter, they are a great bunch of guys. I personally only contribute once in a while, because those guys know their stuff and I read their comments and see what they do for their mods...
then go to
http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi-bin/ppistore.pl
This is a family run business (they are somewhere in the mid-west), you will not find anyone more knowledgable about Trucks then Mike Troyer, and for Fords....he is the MAN. The Troyer website, shows you packages and along with individual performance parts and explains some of the benefits with expected HP gains.... I would suggest that you model your mods with the packages in mind... Mike T. is a nice guy and if you have problems with anything from him...call his number and your gonna get Mike or his wife
Anyway, I have an 02 Screw but with the 4.6L... if I had to do it over again, I would get the 5.4...but I love my truck!
Mods:
1) AirForce One intake
2) Magnaflow Cat-back
3) upgraded thermo
4) dual electric fans <-- helps in the Florida Summer
5) underdrive pullies
6) g-Force 2/4 drop
7) chrome 20" <-- looking to get 22" so if you know anyone... hook a brother up!
some other stuff...but you get my point
Future Mods:
1) Port & Polish
2) 3 angle valve job
3) After market throttle body
4) gears
5) if I win lotto...get a supercharger....
Anyway...hope this helps

rviray, Don't sweat the 4.6, the 5.4 isn't that much more. I don't think these trucks are that fast, I can't even beat a 302 powered explorer. As for port and polish, after extensive research, you'd need to go blown to make it worth wild. A supercharger would be the best deal or some N20. either or.
