Pro-Israel Group Equips Students to Confront Campus Antisemitism

A pro-Israel group hosted an advocacy training program for Christian students on their school campuses last week on how to be allies with the Jewish people.

The District of Columbia organization Passages hosted 150 high school and college-age students in the nation’s capital. The students heard from United States Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, Assistant to the President Will Scharf, and Israel Ambassador to the U.S. Yechiel Leiter. They also participated in interactive stations that involved prayer, writing letters to members of Congress, and an immersive experience hearing recorded audio from Oct. 7 terrorist attack survivors.

Passages aims to promote U.S. and Israel relations and combat antisemitism through advocacy uniting Christians and Jews, according to its website.

“Given the rise of antisemitism not only on the Left but even in some factions of the Right, it’s important to educate these students in a way that they know the facts on the ground, the biblical history, and why it’s important as Christians to stand with Israel and Jewish people. And we’re decided to do just that,” Passages CEO Zach Bauer told The Daily Signal.

Bauer said that in D.C., students got to visit the Museum of the Bible and hear from various expert speakers on Israeli relations over a multiday experience. The program equipped students with the tools they need to combat antisemitism on school campuses.
In the current political climate, it is the goal of Passages to find Christians to rise as “the next generation of Daniels,” Bauer said.

He continued that the boycott, divestment, and sanctions movement, a pro-Palestine campaign with a presence on college campuses in America, is something that students should be aware of.

“The dominant narrative on college campuses has been totally hijacked and bears essentially no relationship to the reality on the ground, to the reality of Middle Eastern history, to what’s actually going on in Israel and the broader Middle East,” Scharf said at the Passages gathering, according to a press release.

Leiter said that despite the “tsunami” of false accusations against Israel, the bond that is Western civilization and Israel will not break, the press release stated.
According to Bauer, Passages plans to send nearly 700 students to Israel by the end of the year for educational purposes.

“Your efforts to bring young Americans to Israel, to foster understanding and to build bridges of faith and friendship are nothing short of inspiring,” Witkoff said in his message to the Washington program attendees.

Vance Makes Request of Christians During Trip to Israel

Vice President JD Vance made an appeal to Christians and people of faith across the world during a visit to Israel on Tuesday.

“And I know that Christians have many titles for Jesus Christ, and one of them is the Prince of Peace,” Vance said. “And I’d ask all people of faith, and in particular my fellow Christians, to pray that the Prince of Peace can continue to work a miracle in this region of the world.”

“I think we have made incredible strides over the past week. We’re going to have to make a lot more, but I think with your prayers, with God’s providence, and with a very good team behind me, I think we’re going to get it done,” Vance said while speaking at a press conference just a few hours after arriving in Israel.

Vance is vocal about his faith, having converted to Catholicism in 2019.
The vice president is in Israel just about a week after the formal signing of a peace deal that started a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas after two years of war. The deal is based on President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan and includes the release of all hostages. All living hostages and 13 deceased hostages have been returned to Israel, but the remains of 15 hostages are still in Gaza.

Hamas’ failure to return all the remains of the deceased hostages within the allotted time frame, and reported incidents of ceasefire violations, including an attack on Israeli troops in Gaza that left two soldiers dead, have raised concerns over the future of the peace deal.

While Vance said he is not certain the ceasefire will hold, he expressed confidence in a future of peace in the Middle East.

“But look, right now, I feel very optimistic. Can I say with 100% certainty that it’s going to work? No, but you don’t do difficult things by only doing what’s 100% certain,” Vance said while speaking at the new Civilian Military Cooperation Center in Israel, a joint U.S.-Israeli facility aimed at upholding the ceasefire.
Vance pushed back on claims that the ceasefire is ending, arguing the tension is not unusual given that the peace deal is being carried out between peoples “who hate each other, who have been fighting against each other for a very long time.”

“We are doing very well. We are in a very good place. We’re going to have to keep working on it, but I think we have the team to do exactly that,” Vance said.

Steve Witkoff, U.S. special envoy to the Middle East, and Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law who helped to broker the peace deal between Israel and Hamas, stood behind Vance as he spoke. Both Witkoff and Kushner are expected to continue playing a significant role in the peace deal as it unfolds. The second phase of the deal is expected to include the complete disarmament of Hamas and a permanent end to the war.

“Our warning to Hamas is very straightforward,” Vance said. “The terms of the 20-point plan that the president put out there is very clear. It’s supported not just by Israel, by all of our Gulf-Arab friends. It’s that Hamas has to disarm. It’s that Hamas has to actually behave itself, and that Hamas, while all the fighters can be given some sort of clemency, they’re not going to be able to kill each other, and they’re not going to be able to kill their fellow Palestinians.”

After the ceasefire took effect, Hamas terrorists began carrying out public executions of Gazans who were perceived to have cooperated with Israel.

Vance said he does not know who will rule Gaza in the future, but the administration is focused now on ensuring the people of both Israel and Gaza can “live in some measure of security and stability.”
“I think once we’ve got to a point where both the Gazans and our Israeli friends can have some measure of security, we will worry about what the long-term governance of Gaza is. Let’s focus on security and rebuilding and giving people food and medicine,” Vance said. “If we get to the point where we are arguing exactly what the governance structure in Gaza is long-term, we should pat ourselves on the back.”

The Palestinian Authority in Gaza has paid recently released terrorists the equivalent of millions of dollarsas part of a “Pay for Slay” program, according to the Israeli Foreign Ministry.

The recent ceasefire and hostage deal between Hamas and Israel included the release of “250 Palestinian terrorists” in exchange for the hostages still being held in Gaza. Among the group, 160 terrorists received monthly payments out of the Palestinian Authority’s “Martyrs Fund,” which is estimated to have grown over time to $70 million, according to Palestinian Media Watch.

“The Palestinian Authority (PA) paid these same terrorists, many of them from Hamas, a collective $70 million. This is what is called Pay-for-Slay. This policy must stop, it fuels terror,” the Israeli Foreign Ministry wrote on the social media platform X Tuesday.

The “pay-for-slay program” or “Martyrs Fund” was established in 2004 to “compensate Palestinians who committed acts of terrorism against the State of Israel, and either died or were imprisoned as a result,” according to American Enterprise Institute distinguished senior fellow Danielle Pletka and Stephen Ailinger, an AEI government-relations associate in foreign and defense policy.

“The terrorist payments increase with the extremity of the violence, with terrorists and their families earning thousands of dollars, free health care, and guaranteed government jobs,”Pletka and Ailinger wrote in a piece for RealClearWorld.com in July.

In February, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced that the Palestinian Authority was ending the program that provides money to the family members of terrorists who were imprisoned, wounded, or killed while carrying out acts of terrorism against Israel. However, experts cast doubt of whether the program was formally ended.

“In reality, the end of ‘pay-to-slay‘ is largely illusory, a feint by Abbas that would simply transfer payments to another entity, the Palestinian National Foundation for Economic Empowerment,” Pletka and Ailinger wrote, contending that Abbas only announced an end to the program to appease the Trump administration.
It remains unclear who will rule Gaza following the formal end to the war between Israel and Hamas, but the Palestinian Authority has expressed an eagerness to run a post-Hamas Gaza.

“How a government spends its money is an indication of its priorities,” Daniel Flesch, a Middle East and North Africa senior policy analyst at The Heritage Foundation, told The Daily Signal. “And by incentivizing its people to attack and kill Israelis (and Americans, in the case of Army veteran Taylor Force), the [Palestinian Authority] demonstrates its motivation is not to build, but to destroy.”

Force, a former U.S. Army officer, was killed in Israel in 2016 when a Palestinian terrorist stabbed him. The 28-year-old was working toward earning his MBA degree from Vanderbilt and was in Israel with fellow students to study entrepreneurship.

“Instead of spending millions of dollars on infrastructure and improving the lives of its people, the [Palestinian Authority] instead chose to spend that money on killing Jews. This, in part, is why the [Palestinian Authority] is NOT viewed as a credible stabilizing force in Gaza or for the future of the region,” Flesch said.
