Default Bertil Roos Racing School Lime Rock Park West Palm Beach

Bertil Roos brings legendary instruction to Lime Rock Park

Friday, 09 March 2018

Legendary track, legendary instructors, legendary school.
Bertil Roos Racing School, the nation's leading school for high-quality, European-style road racing, will now conduct programs at historic Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Connecticut.
Beginning in late April, the iconic school will hold both 3-Day Introductory, and 2-Day Advanced programs, and a Roos F-2000 Race Day event. The dates became available after the 2017 bankruptcy of the original Skip Barber Racing School.
"Once the primary home of the Skip Barber Racing School, dates and opportunities for other schools were hard to come by," Bertil Roos President Dennis Macchio said. "Both the track and the school were owned by Skip Barber. Skip sold the school more than two decades ago. With the breakup of the school, the opportunity to run programs at Lime Rock Park was just too enticing."
Lime Rock Park is 1.5 miles of up and down dale, a track that looks deceiving simple but is immensely challenging. Almost all of the sport's greats have raced at Lime Rock from Parnelli Jones, Mark Donohue and Peter Gregg in the 1960's and 70's to current drivers like 2016 Indianapolis 500 champion Alexander Rossi and IndyCar series champion Simon Pagenaud.
Three of the top four finishers in this year's Daytona 500 – Austin Dillon, Darrell Wallace Jr. and Joey Logano – have raced at Lime Rock, the nation's oldest continually operating road racing venue.
Earlier in the year, Macchio met with Mr. Barber, still the principal owner of the track, about bringing Bertil Roos Racing School to the historic course.
"Skip welcomed the idea of Roos coming to Lime Rock," Macchio said. "I've known Skip for close to 40 years. He used to rent dates from me when I operated the Bridgehampton Race Circuit. Seems like we've come full circle."
BRRS Lime Rock Dates are as follows:
  • April 30, 2018 – Roos F-2000 Race Series
  • May 1-3, 2018 – Three Day School
  • May 2-3, 2018 – Two Day Advanced School
  • May 2, 2018 – A.M. Lapping Sessions
Bertil Roos Racing School features legendary instructors like Bruce MacInnes, formerly the senior instructor at the original Skip Barber Racing School where he worked with such figures as Tom Cruise and Paul Newman, who famously won the SCCA Trans-Am race at Lime Rock in 1986, and NASCAR drivers A.J. Allmendinger, Boris Said and Ken Schrader, all former Lime Rock winners.

To enroll in the 2018 programs at Lime Rock and check out other Bertil Roos programs, where you can receive the same legendary instruction, call 1-800-722-3669 or visit www.racenow.com.

[h=2]Bertil Roos welcomes experienced Barber School instructors[/h]
Bertil Roos welcomes experienced Barber School instructors

Friday, 16 February 2018

Bertil Roos Racing School has merged the best assets of the original Skip Barber Racing School with the hiring of top-rated driving instructors and the purchase and meticulous restoration of their fleet of formula cars.

Two of the original Skip Barber Racing program's most accomplished instructors ever, Bruce MacInnes and Divina Galica, now bring their decades of expertise to Bertil Roos Racing School's training programs of high-quality, European-style road racing.
Bruce MacInnes has professionally coached racing drivers for over four decades. As the senior instructor at the original Skip Barber Racing School, he tutored such high-profile drivers as Paul Newman and Tom Cruise, and NASCAR race winners A.J. Allmendinger, Boris Said, Ken Schrader and Jerry Nadeau.
Behind the wheel, MacInnes ranks among the most accomplished Formula Ford drivers ever with two Pro Formula Ford National Championships and twice named Formula Magazine "Driver of the Year." He set over 18 lap records and his victory in the famed Can-Am Challenge at Lime Rock, driving a Lola T-333 Chevrolet in the rain, is legendary in the sports car world.
A veteran of America's two most famous road races, the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring, he has successfully competed in a wide variety of production cars, Formula cars, and prototypes.
Recently, he has coached several of America's best vintage racing teams and has seen his students win at the highest levels of American racing.
He and wife Vikki are both private pilots and lifetime members of the Experimental Aircraft Association. Other hobbies include restoring vintage cars, building kit cars and custom motorcycles. Several of his projects and articles he has written can be seen at MacInnesMotorsports.com.
Most importantly, he brings a love of racing, a passion for coaching and a genuine concern for his students. He is committed to helping every student achieve progress and is excited to be a part of the Bertil Roos Racing School.
Divina Galica MBE is a true sporting legend in her native Great Britain. She competed in three Winter Olympic Games as downhill ski racer and captained the British Women's Olympic Ski Team twice. She represented Great Britain at a fourth Olympics in 1992 in the demonstration sport of speed skiing.
In 1973, Galica received the MBE (Member of the Most Excellence Order of the British Empire) from Queen Elizabeth II for services to sport. She joined such British icons as The Beatles on the list of MBE recipients.
A chance invitation to a celebrity race in 1974 led to a second career in motor racing. Since then, Galica has competed in a variety of race cars and series including Sports 2000, Formula 1, endurance racing and European Truck Racing.
One of five female drivers to have entered a Formula 1 grand prix, she finished 12th in the 1977 Formula 1 Race of Champions, ahead of legendary drivers Mario Andretti and Clay Regazzoni. She started the 1978 BRDC International Trophy race where she finished ahead of Formula 1 champions Andretti and James Hunt on the legendary Silverstone circuit.
She moved to the United States in 1994 where she raced against drivers like two-time Indianapolis 500 champion Juan Pablo Montoya and started working as an instructor at the original Skip Barber Racing School.
In 2017, she joined the Bertil Roos Racing School. Fueled with a passion for racing, Galica is never happier than when she is instructing drivers or getting behind the wheel of one of the Bertil Roos cars.
To get the high-quality driving instruction offered by MacInnes, Galica and others, and to check out Bertil Roos Racing School programs, visit www.racenow.com or call 1-800-RACE NOW.

Bertil Roos puts former Barber cars to the test

Tuesday, 13 February 2018

Mechanics and engineers at the Bertil Roos Racing School have spent over four months re-designing, re-engineering and rebuilding the former Skip Barber fleet of open-wheel cars which will only be available at Palm Beach International Raceway (PBIR).

The first round of testing and shakedown of those cars began last Wednesday with Bertil Roos Racing School's expert instructors behind the wheel on PBIR's 2.2-mile road course. The cars, which were rebuilt and upgraded to meet the highest performance and safety standards, will become the in-house formula car fleet for the new Palm Beach Performance Driving Education Center, presented by Bertil Roos.
With more than 70 dates and a dozen different driving and racing programs being held at Palm Beach International Raceway, the cars will see a substantial amount of track time during the 2018 season. As a result, a rigorous testing program has been put together toward developing the safest, most durable, and most effective training tools in the industry.
"When the Skip Barber Racing School declared bankruptcy in 2017, we and many others attended the auctions that ensued," Bertil Roos Racing School President Dennis Macchio said. "What stood out as a positive to us was the fleet of formula cars. We saw a great opportunity to rehabilitate those cars and rebuild them to the highest industry standards.
"Our thinking was confirmed by many former Barber employees and we now feature an impressive inventory of top-of-the-line vehicles to best learn the art of high-quality, European-style road racing."
Testing of the cars to make sure each passes Bertil Roos' high standard of excellence, will continue throughout the month of February and into early March. The newly rebuilt cars will make their debut at the Roos 3-Day beginning March 12.
For the complete list of programs available this year Palm Beach International Raceway and for more info on the Bertil Roos Racing School, call 1-800-722-3669, or visit racenow.com.

BRRS: Turn 9 at Palm Beach provides an unforgettable experience

Monday, 16 April 2018

Bertil Roos Racing School

What's it like to get behind the wheel of a Formula car at the Bertil Roos Racing School?

For Merrill Quintrell, the three-day course at Palm Beach International Raceway in Jupiter, Fla., provided one of the best experiences of his life.
The 62-year-old North Carolina resident paints a vivid description of what it's like to be in the car and to drive through just one single turn of PBIR's state-of-the-art, 2.2-mile road course. It's the challenging Turn 9 which he describes below.
"As you come out of Turn 8 you are full on the power, you let the car go wide to the left and use every inch of track for the exit. Approaching the redline in second, you snap a fast shift to third and then to fourth. Full throttle down the long straight. Winding out in fourth the speed is incredible. The wind buffets your helmet and everything in your peripheral vision becomes a blur."
He continued, "The braking markers are approaching very fast. Number 4, Number 3, you change your line and head straight for the curbing preceding the apex. As you pass Number 2, you are still hard on the throttle. Number 1 is just ahead. NOW, off the throttle and HARD on the brakes, downshift, downshift. You are at a crazy angle for the apex – you've technically turned in way too early. Pointed towards the barrier, you're still carrying way too much speed to make the turn.
"Off the brakes, it's now or never. You crank in some steering and blip the throttle. The car is suddenly loose, and the front end starts rotating around the apex like its nose is tethered to a pole. As the exit swings into center vision, you push the throttle down hard and the rear of the car magically plants. You're back on your line as you rocket toward the exit. Oh yeah! In thrust we trust! You just survived Turn 9, for another lap. Now it's time to pull out the playbook for turn 10 and do it all over again.
"You are all by yourself. It's just you and the car, and you're in heaven."
To see more information about Bertil Roos Racing School and experience your own slice of heaven, visit racenow.com or call 1-800 RACE NOW.

Bertil Roos Racing School presents opportunities to learn proper techniques

sharetweetemail
By: racerdigitaladmin April 2, 2018 5:10 PM Bertil Roos Racing School is the nation’s leader when it comes to European-style road racing and students have plenty of opportunities over the next couple of months to learn this highly intricate form of racing. The school has been training students for over four decades and it uses Formula cars to teach the arts of performance driving and racing. Bertil Roos Racing School President Dennis Macchio explained that every technique important to racing and driving are more effectively taught in an f-car.“Visual training, what we refer to as ocular driving techniques are best taught in the cockpit of a car that has no A pillars, no windshield, no rearview mirror, and no forward blind spot,” Macchio said. “Car control, line correction and important advanced skills are much easier to learn in nimble, lightweight, Formula cars.”The school will be available at different tracks over the next couple of months, starting with a three-day school on April 9-11 at Pocono Raceway, followed by a two-day advanced school on April 12-13.Those interested can enroll in a five-day road racing school with no prior experience required. Upon completion, you will have fulfilled all the requirements of a SCCA competition license and are eligible to enter the Roos Formula 2000 Racing Series. The three-day school is the cornerstone of the racing programs with intensive training on how to drive a race car to its limits.Day one starts with a brief introduction in the classroom, followed immediately by a track session in one of BRRS’ patented slide cars. More classroom, on-track practice with street cars and discussion leads to two on-track sessions.Day two begins with another classroom session, followed by another session in the slide cars or street cars. Drivers get an abundant amount of seat time, perfecting skills required to advance to day three.Day three is when the new skills are put to the test to squeeze every last tenth of a second out. A slide-car session is combined with five track sessions in the race cars. You learn techniques like Ocular Driving, Rotational Turn-In, Line Recovery, Slide Control and Heel and Toe which sets Bertil Roos Racing School apart from other schools. The two-day advanced school is for those looking for more advanced instruction. The techniques learned at the Bertil Roos Racing School help drivers in all forms of racing.Jarett Andretti, son of former NASCAR and IndyCar star John Andretti, provides an example. Carrying on the Andretti family tradition of versatility behind the wheel, Jarett is competing in both sprint cars and sports cars this season.“The first road racing experience I had after go-karts was the 5-Day Bertil Roos Racing School in March 2011 at Virginia International Raceway,” Andretti said. “After graduating from Roos, I went back to my normal racing schedule, USAC Midgets. We won the Eastern Pavement championship in 2011 and competed in the 50th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Daytona in January 2012. Now, that I’m competing in the Pirelli World Challenge in addition to my sprint car schedule, I will be leaning on my Roos experience now more than ever.”You don’t have to be an Andretti to experience what it’s like to be behind the wheel at a Bertil Roos Racing School. The following dates are available, including a visit to the historic Lime Rock Park. • April 9-11 Pocono Raceway 3-day school

• April 12-13 Pocono Raceway 2-day advanced

• May 1-3 Lime Rock Raceway 3-day school

• May 2-3 Lime Rock Raceway 2-day advanced

• May 7-9 New Jersey Motorsports Park 3-day school

• May 10-11 New Jersey Motorsports Park 2-day advanced

• June 4-6 Dominion Raceway 3-day school

• June 11-12 Dominion Raceway 2-day advanced

• June 18-20 Palm Beach International Raceway 3-day school

• June 21-22 Palm Beach International Raceway 2-day advanced

Glenn Brooks finished second with Seth Foley rounding out the podium. Nichols finished ninth in race No. 2.Among the Group 2 drivers, Gabe Jasper qualified third, but powered to the front to win the first of two races.
