[h=1]NY Ignores US Constitution, Forces Firearm Surrender[/h]

An array of gun control groups have allied with New York lawmakers in a push to establish Extreme Risk Protection Orders, forcing subjects to surrender their firearms.


The proposal, S7133/A8976, allows police, or a member of a subject’s family or household, to file a petition with the court that could lead to an order prohibiting firearms possession for up to a year if it is believed they pose an imminent risk to themselves or others. Proponents feel the move, already law in California, Oregon and Washington, would save lives.

“Five years ago, New York enacted the NY SAFE Act, making our gun violence prevention laws among the strongest in the nation,” said state Sen. Brian Kavanagh, a Manhattan Democrat and sponsor of S7133. “But even though we have the 48th lowest rate of gun deaths in the country, gun violence is still hurting New Yorkers — and we have a responsibility to act.”


The avenue to implement the protection order system advocated by Kavanagh would be the court system, which, upon being presented with a petition that contends an individual’s possession of guns in his or her current state could pose a general danger, could authorize an order to confiscate the firearms involved. The subject could then seek a hearing to respond to the petition and present any evidence to have their guns returned. Kavanagh backed a similar measure last session that passed the Assembly but stalled in the Senate.

Second Amendment groups have blasted the ERPO process in other states, arguing it provides no structure for those deemed at risk to receive help, or for those who are dangerous to be taken into custody. Further, they point to due process concerns and cite that people who are not mental health professionals or have little contact with the subject can make a statement that triggers a lengthy suspension of gun rights.


The New York bills are backed by a consortium of gun control groups to include the Brady Campaign, the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, Everytown, Giffords, Moms Demand Action and Prosecutors Against Gun Violence, the latter founded by Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance.


“Extreme Risk Protective Orders can save lives by preventing an act of violence before a shot is ever fired,” said Vance. “When family members or law enforcement identify a person at great risk to themselves or others, removing guns from the equation is just common sense.

Last month, the House of Representatives passed a bill that would permit concealed carry license holders to have national reciprocity—essentially making it illegal for anti-gun states like New York and California to continue targeting and prosecuting concealed carry permit holders from other states.

Unfortunately, so far the bill has stalled in the democrat controlled Senate. Former president of the NRA, David Keene, talks about the current status of the bill and whether he expected it to pass anytime soon in today's post. Check out Keene's thoughts on the bill here.

The Future of the Stalled Concealed Carry Reciprocity Bill


Remember Stephen Willeford? He was the hero of the Sutherland Springs, Texas church shooting who defended his neighbors when an armed murderer was going on a killing spree. The killer, who does not deserve to be named again, killed and injured men, women, children, and babies. Willeford heard the shots, took his AR-15 out of his gun safe, and ran out into the street barefoot in order to engage with the killer.


Willeford talks about how he set his gun down when he heard cops giving the command to do so, but they said, “Not you, sir,” indicating their appreciation for his help. We love that detail of this story.


We would do well to remember that of all the gun deaths in America- the majority of them are violent criminals who are killed by a lawful gun owner and police officers who are acting in defense of themselves or others. That makes Stephen Willeford a meaningful representative of this argument.


Our right to defend ourselves using prevalent weapon technology is under constant attack by legislatures whose motives are suspect. Why are their motives suspect? Because every government that has successfully disarmed its people throughout history has always engaged in violent oppression immediately afterward. That’s why we bring up Stephen Willeford and people like him whenever the opportunity arises.

But we may be making gains against the anti-freedom left, as the former NRA President David Keene believes universal conceal carry permits will be legal soon. This would be a great advancement for freedom.

NRA Awards Grant To Arizona Rangers For Training

The National Rifle Association doesn’t just fight to defend our Second Amendment rights. It also awards grants to police departments for various things, apparently. Recently, it awarded a grant to the Arizona Rangers to help fund training for the rangers.First, let me just say that it’s a shame that any law enforcement officer should have to pay out of pocket for weapons training as a general rule. While there will always be a few guys who want to do more and are willing to pay for more training, that should be the exception, not the rule.

Unfortunately, far too many departments offer a minimum amount of training for officers, just enough to help them pass the qualification course of fire, and little else. They simply don’t have the resources to do more.
That means dedicated law enforcement officers who want the best training possible have to seek it out themselves. Then they have to navigate the morass of trainers that vary from the sublimely excellent to the not so good. While officers should have the knowledge to figure out quickly they’re dealing with one of the worst trainers, and they may be able to benefit from fellow officers’ recommendations, it’s still a position no one wants to be in, including police officers.

At least now some of the burden is being taken off of the Arizona Rangers’ plate for the time being. With grant money in place, rangers should be able to get better training than the standard stuff most agencies can manage and it not come out of their pocket.

The downside is $4,000 goes pretty quickly when you’re looking at quality training. Anyone who has ever shopped for a class at some of the top schools knows just how little training that’ll buy.
And that’s just for weapons training. I can only imagine what it costs to attend classes on other law enforcement topics.

I’m not knocking the NRA’s grant, mind you. They grant what they can, after all.
What I’m saying is that we all may want to look at what we can do to help make grants like this large enough to really make a difference for these agencies. I don’t think anyone really disagrees that better-trained law enforcement officers constitute a win for each and every one of us.

It’s great having someone at your six, someone who has your back. This great organization will do that and possibly other members in the concealed carry community. But who in “high places” understands and speaks for us? Who can we trust to advocate on our behalf?


Here are some of the top celebrities in the U.S. and the world and their stance on our freedoms. I bet you or your kids listen to their music, attend their concerts or buy tickets for their movies. Your children may follow them on Instagram and Twitter … and that means these people have a significant voice in your life, whether you know it or like it or not.

1. Shania Twain: She’s Canadian — the country where the word “mankind” is out of fashion, says boy Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who wants “peoplekind” used, instead — and she’s 52 and married to a guy named “Mutt.” (It’s true. You can look it up.) Twain is a vegetarian, believes that chanting with crystals cures cancer. And she contributed to the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence but had armed guards at her January 2011 Puerto Rico wedding to Mutt. Country music. Really?
2. Kevin Bacon: The guy who comes with eggs and toast has also contributed to anti-gun campaigns of the Brady Center. But Kev has used guns in plenty of his movies, movies that put plenty of cash in his and Kyra Sedgwick’s pockets: Tremors (Winchester Model 1892, Micro Uzi), Death Sentence (Rossi Overland, Colt Python), Trapped (S&W Model 19) and plenty more.
3. Matt Damon: Matt “I actually hate guns … they freak me out” Damon has made a living off your entertainment with his Jason Bourne franchise, but he believes you are a “schmo” — Yiddish for an idiot or a cuckold.
4. Sean Connery: “An open-handed slap is justified — if all other alternatives fail and there has been plenty of warning. If a woman is a [expletive], or hysterical or bloody-minded continually, then I’d do it. They want a smack.” The former 007 taped a 1997 anti-gun ad for the BBC: “It is said that a total ban on handguns, including .22s, would take away innocent pleasure from thousands of people. Is that more or less pleasure than watching your child grow up?” Huh?
5. Arnold Schwarzenegger: He once supported the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] Amendment, but then he got political — in California! Remember Terminator (Armalite AR-1, Predator (Desert Eagle Mark I), Last Action Hero (HK MP5K) and so many more. Of course, it turns out that this idol has feet of clay. Keep him away from your wife and girlfriend. In a 2003 issue of Time, he said, “I’m for gun control. I’m a peace-loving guy.”
6. George Clooney: He made fun of Charlton Heston when Heston was dying: “I don’t care. Charlton Heston is the head of the National Rifle Association. He deserves whatever anyone says about him.” He owns a villa on spectacular Lake Como in Northern Italy but complains there are too many African immigrants in town. In The American, he used a Ruger Mini14. In The Peacemaker, a Beretta 92FS. Hypocrite.

Jim Carrey, who is almost violently anti-gun, draws an S&W Model 29 while imitating (or making fun) of Clint Eastwood in Bruce Almighty (2003).

These are the people I want to keep away from my home. These people who make a living off making “gun violence” seem romantic … and then want to deny the work they have done. And there are plenty more where these came from: Lady “I just abhor violence” Gaga (used a PPKS in Machete Kills), Sylvester “And you thought he was your friend” Stallone (used a SIG Sauer P229 in The Expendables 2), Mark Funky Bunch “I’d like to see if we could take them all away” Wahlberg (used a Taurus PT92 in Shooter) and Bobby “There should be more control” DeNiro (used a Glock 19 in Righteous Kill).
Me? I prefer Tom Selleck, Brad Pitt, Miranda Lambert, Ted Nugent, Gary Sinise, Clint Eastwood.
Think about it when you splash cash for a movie and popcorn — taking the family out now runs $50 to $75 dollars — or what music you prefer. Think about it when you tune into Netflix because, fortunately or not, our choice of entertainment now makes a political statement.
