    Fellow American,
One of the greatest gifts God has given Americans is our freedom. Even with all the turmoil and oppression we see in the world around us, we still too often take these freedoms for granted.
In our great country, the Constitution is the document that protects it. After the Bible, it is the single most important document in the world. Most Americans think they know it well, since they learned about it in school.
But far too few Americans truly understand the Constitution and the freedoms it protects.
We've made our renowned Constitution 101 course free for all Americans to take online -- the same course that every Hillsdale student must take to graduate, regardless of their major.
Activate your personal Constitution 101 course today -- you'll get weekly lessons via email and can take quizzes to test your knowledge as you learn.
    Time is Running Out

Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin agree:
“Hillsdale College is the authority on teaching the Constitution.”
In the fight to preserve our freedoms, our greatest enemy is ignorance. Become an expert on the document that secures and preserves your freedom -- the U.S. Constitution.
Start your free Constitution 101 course today.

    Thank you,

Free online course: Hillsdale College's new free online course, "The U.S. Supreme Court."

President Trump is going to leave his mark on the U.S. Supreme Court. In addition to Justice Scalia's replacement, it is likely that another seat will be vacated during his term.

Donald Trump's nominees could keep the court split or they could tip the court back toward limited constitutional government for an entire generation. An opportunity exists to undo the Progressive judicial activism that has undermined our Constitution the past century. This court's docket will certainly include controversial issues--such as Obamacare and immigration--and Donald Trump's nominees will play an important role in the direction of our country.
Although the Supreme Court is tasked with interpreting the Constitution, many today think of the Supreme Court as the final authority on the Constitution. This was not the intention of those who wrote it. All three branches were to be responsible for upholding the Constitution, and the ultimate responsibility was to lie in the hands of those who established it – "We the People."
To this purpose, I invite you to enroll in Hillsdale College's new free online course, "The U.S. Supreme Court."

Hillsdale's Supreme Court course looks at several of the most important cases in the Court's history—cases that have had a dramatic effect on our politics and our society today. We will also look at the intended role of the Supreme Court, how that role has changed, and the ways in which that change has undermined our Constitution and our freedom.
I teach the first and last lecture, and the others are taught by our world-class Hillsdale faculty. There is no cost to take the course and you can watch the lectures at your leisure. I hope you'll take the opportunity to learn about this important topic.

You are now enrolled in Hillsdale College’s The Presidency and the Constitution course!

Your course is being prepared and will be ready in a few moments. Check your email in a few minutes for the link to begin your course.
We are often asked — why does Hillsdale offer this course for free?

    Here are three important reasons:

    • In 2016, Americans will choose new political leadership—including a new President.
    • Every American must understand the requirements and restrictions of the office of the Presidency — as defined by the Constitution.
    • By educating millions of Americans on the most powerful office on earth, America can begin to turn around and restore lost liberty.

Hillsdale refuses every penny of taxpayer-funded government support (even indirectly through student grants and loans) to remain truly independent.

    Dear Fellow American,
In the first 60 days, Donald Trump’s presidency has proven to be one of the most unorthodox administrations in the modern era. He promised that he would buck traditional lines of communication, crony political appointments, and the Washington status quo—and so far he is making good on that promise. By voting for Trump, an overwhelming number of Americans rejected business as usual.
But what is “business as usual” for the President of the United States? What did the founders intend when they designed the office?
We have a front row seat to one of the most interesting presidencies in our nation’s history. But we must also understand the proper, good, and lawful role of the President according to the Constitution. The Executive Branch was designed to be powerful, but with important—constitutional—constraints.
To help you deepen your understanding, Hillsdale College offers you their popular online course for free – “The Presidency and the Constitution.” When you sign up for this free online course, the first lesson will be emailed to you immediately, with additional lessons to follow in the coming weeks.
I urge you as an American citizen to take this course and deepen your understanding of the proper role of the President in a constitutional republic.

    "Introduction: The Modern Presidency"

If you actually registered, there is a 10 question test at the end.

Welcome to The Presidency and the Constitution.

    Watch Lecture One

    "Introduction: The Modern Presidency"

    Overview:

The American presidency is often called the most powerful office on earth. This is so not only because the nation which elects the president is the most powerful nation on earth, but also because the American Founders designed the office to be strong and effective. However, the Founders also placed certain restraints on this power, which are necessary to maintain liberty and protect citizens’ rights. The modern understanding and structure of the presidency are a threat to freedom due to the accumulation of all three powers—legislative, executive, and judicial—in the executive branch and the breakdown of constitutional restraints.

About "The Presidency and the Constitution"
This free, 10-week, not-for-credit course, taught by the Hillsdale College Politics Department faculty, will help you understand the structure and function of executive power in the American constitutional order. The course considers the role of the presidency in the constitutionalism of the Founding Fathers and how that role has changed with the rise of the Progressive administrative state.

    About Hillsdale College

Hillsdale College was founded in 1844 by men and women who proclaimed themselves “grateful to God for the inestimable blessings resulting from the prevalence of civil and religious liberty and intelligent piety in the land,” and who believed that “the diffusion of sound learning is essential to the perpetuity of these blessings.”
Hillsdale was the first American college to prohibit in its charter any discrimination based on race, sex, or national origin. Associated with the anti-slavery movement from its earliest days, it attracted to its campus anti-slavery leaders such as Frederick Douglass and Edward Everett, who preceded Abraham Lincoln at Gettysburg. Several of the College’s leading men were instrumental in founding the new Republican party up the road in Jackson, Michigan, in 1854. And Hillsdale sent a larger percentage of its students to fight for the Union in the Civil War than any other American college or university except West Point. Two of those Hillsdale veterans helped carry Lincoln’s casket to the slain president’s final resting place in Springfield, Illinois.
Hillsdale’s modern rise to national prominence began in the 1970s, when the federal government attempted to impose a host of regulations on the College—including racial quota requirements that violated Hillsdale’s principled policy of nondiscrimination. When the Supreme Court upheld these regulations in the 1980s on the basis that Hillsdale students received federally funded grants and loans, the College decided to refuse even this indirect form of federal aid, replacing all federal student aid with privately funded grants, loans, and scholarships.

Hillsdale’s Board of Trustees pledged first that the College would continue its long-standing policy of nondiscrimination, and second that it would not accept any encroachments on its independence. It is a pledge that has been renewed several times in subsequent years and stands to date.
Today an independent, coeducational, residential liberal arts college with a student body of some 1,400 undergraduates, the College continues to carry out its original mission. With a core curriculum that comprises about one-half of courses a student needs to graduate, Hillsdale maintains its strong fidelity to the liberal arts.
In its outreach, too, the College teaches those same ideas that advance “civil and religious liberty.” Its many programs include the Center for Constructive Alternatives, one of the largest college lecture series in America; the Hoogland Center for Teacher Excellence, which holds seminars for high school teachers of civics and history; the National Leadership Seminars; the Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship, in Washington, D.C.; and Imprimis, a monthly newsletter that reaches over three million people.
Opened in the fall of 2012, the Hillsdale College Van Andel Graduate School of Statesmanship offers an M.A. and a Ph.D. in politics.

    About

Founded in 1844, Hillsdale College is an independent, coeducational, residential, liberal arts college with a student body of about 1,400. Its four-year curriculum leads to the bachelor of arts or bachelor of science degree, and it is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

Hillsdale’s educational mission rests upon two principles: academic excellence and institutional independence. The College does not accept federal or state taxpayer subsidies for any of its operations.

Located in rural southern Michigan, the nearly 400-acre Hillsdale campus includes both modern and historic buildings. Facilities include comfortable residence halls, subject-specific computer labs, a state-of-the-art health education and sports complex, Michael Alex Mossey Library with its Leighton-Taylor Wing, the Sage Center for the Arts, the Herbert Henry Dow Science Building, Howard Music Hall, and two classroom buildings—Kendall Hall and Lane Hall. Adjacent to the campus is the model primary and secondary school, Hillsdale Academy, whose comprehensive Reference Guide is used in hundreds of schools throughout the country.

An ideal student-faculty ratio of 10:1, rigorous academics, intramural sports, national fraternity and sorority houses, and widespread community volunteerism all nurture intellectual, physical, social, and personal growth. A broad perspective is encouraged through opportunities for off-campus internships, overseas study programs, and the adjunct seminars of the Center for Constructive Alternatives, Mises Lectures in free-market economics, the National Leadership Seminars, and the Hoogland Center for Teacher Excellence.

As you know, last year’s elections have given us an opportunity to begin to return to limited government under the Constitution. But they also revealed something disturbing about our country’s young people.
In last year’s primaries, the majority of millenials (Americans youngest generation of voters) gave their support to a candidate who openly embraces socialism!
This indicates that we have failed to educate too many young Americans about our nation’s founding principles and about the reasons America developed into the freest and most prosperous nation in history.
That’s why Hillsdale College has decided to accelerate its efforts to reach and educate Americans – and especially young Americans – with our new and improved online course, “Introduction to the Constitution.”
This course is compelling, with very high production value. I think it will engage today’s young Americans, and will convey to them the importance of the Constitution to liberty.
We’ve set a goal to enroll 100,000 people in this new online course during the month of May. In order to accomplish this, we must raise $150,000 by Saturday, April 28. These funds will be used to launch an extensive promotional campaign on digital and social media and on national talk radio!
Since Hillsdale doesn’t take a single penny from the government, even indirectly in the form of student grants or loans, we rely on donor support for all our operations—including the promotion of online courses.
Will you help us to educate our nation’s young people about the political principles that are essential to American freedom and prosperity? Any amount you give will help us to reach and educate young Americans.
Here’s the link where you can make a donation: https://secure.hillsdale.edu/introduction-to-the-constitution/ Warm regards,

More than one million people have taken one or more of Hillsdale's free online courses in the past five years, deepening their knowledge of such topics as the Constitution, American history, and free market economics. While we are proud of that accomplishment, we are aiming higher. That's why we recently produced a new and improved version of our very first online course, “Introduction to the Constitution.”
We increased the production value of the course and made it more compelling and more engaging with one main purpose in mind—to allow us to reach more young Americans with a message they very much need to hear.
If we are able to educate a million additional young people on the importance of the Constitution to liberty and on the reasons that America became the freest and most prosperous nation in history, we can begin to reverse the effects of decades of progressive education.
For the launch of this new course, we’ve set an ambitious goal of enrolling 100,000 students this May. In order to do that, we must raise $150,000 by April 29.
As you know, Hillsdale operates independently of all taxpayer funding—even indirectly in the form of student grants or loans. We depend of the support of Americans like you, who understand the importance of education to preserving free government. It’s only with your help that we can make online courses like “Introduction to the Constitution” available to millions of Americans at no charge.
Will you help us reach more Americans, especially young Americans, with “Introduction to the Constitution”? Make a secure online donation here: https://secure.hillsdale.edu/introduction-to-the-constitution/

Learn what the executive office was meant to be—and how to restore it.
The American presidency is often called the most powerful office on earth. This is so not only because the nation which elects the president is the most powerful nation on earth, but also because the American Founders designed the office to be strong and effective. However, the Founders also placed certain restraints on this power, which are necessary to maintain liberty and protect citizens' rights.

The modern understanding and structure of the presidency are a threat to freedom due to the accumulation of all three powers--legislative, executive, and judicial--in the executive branch and the breakdown of constitutional restraints.
Learn more about this breakdown of the separation of powers and how to restore the Constitutional restraints in this free course taught by Hillsdale College's politics faculty.
The course is delivered via email, with one lesson per week over ten weeks. Each lesson features lively discussion boards, suggested readings, and weekly quizzes.
