First Toyota F1 head won the Acropolis Rally with this Alpine A110

The roots for today’s Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe date back to the early 1970s, when Swedish driver Ove Andersson founded his own rally team. Later on, he would lead the F1 effort for Toyota. But long before that, Andersson raced the Alpine A110 from 1970 to 1972, and Andersson won the 1971 Acropolis Rally with this very example.



After the 1971 season, Andersson sold it and the car fell into a state of disrepair. In 1985, its current owner purchased the Alpine, sans engine, believing it was a roadgoing version. He turned it into a hillclimb car.



In 2020, the car was restored to how it raced in the 1971 Acropolis Rally. The following year, the Alpine displayed as part of an Alpine anniversary celebration in France.
