Default MR2 intake manifolds

I have read that many people have made alot of additional power by making a custom intake mainifold for the MR2 turbo. I think this has something to do with how the stock intake manifold give priority to the number 2 and 3 cylinders. So those two cylinders do most of the work. Anyway, does anyone know anymore details and know of anyone who sells aftermarket intake manifolds for 2?

Um no cylinder does most the work, they all do the same work. the 1 cly i think it is gets less air then the rest with the stock manifold. and the stock manifold is not efficant for a modded 2, that is an unsually small manifold, Mr2drvier pointed out the other day that it was smaller then the one on my corolla

number 2 and 3 cyl are shorter than 1 and 4 causing a lean condition in both 2 and 3. Unequal flow in teh intake manifold causes many problems. So no they do not work harder they just get more air... Which is a problem...

That's nice guys, but no one has answered the question. Thanks for pointing out the what exactly is wrong with the manifold. But I would like to know if anyone know how to remedy it with a simple after market solution. I have heard of some companies who make manifold replacements for the 2 and I was wondering if anyone here knows where I could find one. A website would be greatly appreciated or maybe a phone number, a name, or something like that. Or would it be easier to just bore out the stock manifold? And then again is that a bad idea all together?

http://www.huxracing.com/

Hux is a mr2 tuner on the other coast pricey yet good at what he does.

Al who corrected my earler post owns Garage Advance and is in orlando both of them can help you with your needs. an intake manifold will be a custom made part not an off the shelf item like exhaust system.

call AL up and talk to him about it.

There are a few different solutions

The most exspensive being the JUN GT Surge tnak manifold . That is atleast 2K though .

Hux puts a larger plenum on the stock runners and just ports them out . You still haev the somewhat unever runners . His is around 500 $'s though . Much mroe affordable . I think it also comes with a larger TB not sure on that though .

There are also a few otehr but some stopped being made . Truleo made on as well as LB who makes some nice GT Turbo kits for SW20's

Your best bet is to get on the MR2 boards . http://board.mr2faq.com Go on there an do a search for Intake Manifold . Should being back alot of posts .

Hope that helps
