Default AE86/Corolla Rear End Swap ~HELP~

Hey guys,

I have a couple of questions regarding the ae86 rear end. I have searched several forums to no avail. Hoping someone can help on here.

Has anyone done a rear end swap? If so, what option did you go? do you have details?

From what I read on other forums, theres a couple of rear end swaps but the 2 im interested in are: Supra or Ford rear end swap. To my knowledge, I understand that both will need some type of modifications or fabricaton.

I have an engine picked out (secret, will not reveal) and thinking of making 225-250hp. From what I read, the stock ae86 will not handle that much power and will snap, eventually. I want to do a swap but I have not read of any write up on the Ford rear swap! All I know is that i need the rear end of a ford explorer or mustang, cut it to the size of the stock ae86 rear end, weld it together. From there theres no more details on how to install or what other mods that are needed. Ive seen the supra write up but to get a supra rear end, its going to be hard to find and cost $$ while the ford is plentiful and cheap.

I searched on this site a saw another member was posting up a 3tc build and used a ford rear end but no details were provided and the post is a couple of years old.

All in all, I want to do a rear end swap, anyone who has done one with experience and can provide details will be greatly appreciated!

Im located in Central Florida, Lakeland, and if your willing to help out on my project that would be even better!

The nine inch ford rear end is pretty indestructable.
Get a rear from an automatic trans car.
Section out what is needed from a few inches in from the ends, so the total
length is the same as on your car. Line up everything before welding back together.

When you have the rear, I can help you measure and show you where the
section needs to be removed.-Bob

Thank you for your reply. That much I already know. What I am looking for is what to do after the welding is done. Is there any other mods such as brackets and such? Is it a direct bolt on? do I go drum or disc set up?

What have other ae86 owners been usiing for rearend swaps when they swap the engine for a 3tc, KA or 1JZ when the power gets greater then what the original rear end can handle?

I would bolt the axle into the car duplicating the method that is currently used.
Won't that make it a direct bolt on?

Do some measuring and see what you need to do to mount the brakes that are
now on the car. When the car is driveable, you can undate/convert the brakes
if needed. Weight will be on the front end. Focus on doing the front brakes first.-Bob
