Default System check light on 2010 Yaris

The oil change before last I put Castrol synthetic (5w30) since it was on sale and a K&N oil filter and as soon as I started the thing up the system check light came on. I just changed the oil with regular Valvaline (5w30 and yes again on sale) and a purolator filter and when I started it up the system check light went right off. This is just a grocery getter, good on gas (about 33-37 mpg) but, any ideas on this matter?

Was it the maintence required light or the actual check engine light? There is a difference between the 2. It is most likely the maintence required light that needs to be reset. Toyotas you either have to have the key off hold down the odometer reset button then turn the key on until all the lines disappear. That or you put it to trip A and do the procedure above. Just need to know if it is the actual check engine light and not the maintence deal.

neither, was reset correctly, per manual the light that came up was the system check light, I will double check for the doubt, was not the engine/maintenance light. I just think the engine didnt like the castrol or the K&N filter. I actually get was getting about 20-30 miles less per tank with that combo. no bs. I always rotate tires a set pressure correctly with each oil change and change air filter every other oil change. I will look back in manual and get back with you when my 15 month old stops crying. chau

Hi,I just want to ask if there are other reasons why my check engine light is blinking. i understand its intervals are set by mileage. i haven't messed up with my tire pressure. So i was wondering what could be causing this. I read from a car repair service that driving a car with the check engine light on could mean that I'm doing further damage to my engine. it's been 3 days since I last drove my car since I'm afraid.

The check engine light is blinking you have a major issue going on. That is a type a misfire in 1 or more cylinders. You would be damaging our cats which is not good at all. Make sure that it isn't the maintenance light cause there is a difference. IF it is a check engine light that is blinking get it scanned/looked at asap. Hey 25tolife did you get that light taken care of? I can help you with it in person if need be.
