Default 7th gen Corolla help/guidence/info

Trying to find some information about the 1993-97 Corollas. Well, a 1997 to be exact.

Stuff like,
How much of a pain is it to do a 5 speed swap in a 1997 Corolla? and what's the deal with this 6 speed tranny I keep hearing referenced?

Basic builds, costs and expected/actual gains?

What parts to swap from other cars/engines to increase performance?

I'm not trying to build a race car by any means.
If anything, I'm just looking to make it a decent thing to drive back and forth to work. Shooting for awesome gas mileage while not getting ran over by traffic getting on the interstate.

I've tried to search around on some of the toyota and corolla forums, but the information on there is either a decade old, or it is just flat retarded crap, worst than digging around some of the honda forums.

I'm hoping I just haven't found the right place for information yet.

I looked into some engine swaps, but I can't justify the money, work, effort, blood, tears, and sweat for the minimal gains that most of the swaps give you.

Is this just that uncommon of a platform that the information just isn't out there?
I see kids with fart cannons on these things all of the time trying to race around like they have something. I figured at least a few of them have actually built cars worth talking about.

Really appreciate the help and guidance.

I appreciate the info.
Can you be more specific with the tranny swaps? any good write ups anywhere? What car does the tranny come out of? What about the 5 speed swap? is that worth the time/money/effort? any good write ups for that anywhere?

Where do you get parts for these things? Is the ebay junk the only option?

I'm not looking to do an engine swap. I feel it is way too much money, for next to no gains. for the 1,500 to 1,800 (or more) bucks it would take to do the swap in a 20valve from begining to end, you only end up with about 120 whp and the same gas mileage, simple bolt ons would get me that for a fraction of the cost.

Do you know of any good sources of information? I've found a few forums, but they had so much just garage information in them, that it gave me a headache. It was worse than trying to dig through a honda forum for good infomation.
