Default Heads??

Hello Im new to the motor working on 4 cyl's
I have done Heads on my old 75 Nova and worked some on my Merc V8 that was wrecked.

I have the Toyota Tercel, 1.5 Liter, and it is very will to move ((plus it is light as can be. 1960 LBS))

Now my ?.

1)Is the Toyota's E3 motor known to be a motor that can be boosted. or are the pistons/rods to weak. or is it better to just swap out.

2) I know Honda's are a ECU that you chip and the Ford ya use a programmer to mod the settings. what is the toyota.
(this ? is because if I boost i know it will run lean so i will have to make it run richer.)
Most people are telling me very mix'ed input on the toyotas.

Thanks for any input.

1) omg no, the 3e is a total pice of shit. i had a 94 tercel and i can tell you the 3e is known to burn oil. put in a 5efe out of a paseo or a 4efte if you want it boosted. the 5efe swap is super easy.

Thanks for the input ill read up on those motors.
I must say my E33 runs amazing thank the lord, its
been a blessing . @ 144K miles the little motor runs like a top.

@ RK do know about the ECU, is it a Unit that is to be chipd like a honda or a ECU like a ford that you can use a programmer to change the settings.

i dont know much about the 3E-E stuff, most people just swap it out for a much better power plant like the 5efe or 5efhe, i would do a 5efe boosted with megasquirt. or atleast an n/a 5efe swap.

running a different managment setup like megasquirt would be your best bet. i think they go for like $350 new.

@ Rotary Kid, Thanks for the information, I spent like 3 hours last night Reading on the motors. 3EE vs 5efe, I see that in the 4efe times the internals were changed, and the 5efe gen the stroke is longer and the SOHC vs DOHC , and the 5efe is DIS,
what is nice but does it use (coil pack's) like the mercury grand qarquess did?

I found this web page and the motor for the 5E is not to bad..
Low Mileage Toyota Engines

The MegaSquirt units are kinda like not specific to what im reading but im sure when the money comes in ill call the webpage and ask.
I found these 2 units.
MegaSquirt-I EFI System - SMD PCB3.57 - Assembled Unit DIYAutoTune.com
and
MegaSquirt-I Programmable EFI System PCB3.0 - Assembled Unit DIYAutoTune.com
The soft ware is found cheap to get on CD. and even free i think to download.

the 5efe dohc that im refering to has a distributor and the only difference for the wiring for it is one wire has to be ran to the ecu. super easy swap and a good starting powerplant for any build for a tercel. good luck and research up on the swap. if you just did a stock 5efe out of a paseo swap, its super easy. but if youre goign to turbo that engine, youll have to run megasquirt.
