I really need some help coming up with alternatives to my current problem and I am hoping someone here smarter than me might have an idea that can work.

Problem: 2000 Lexus lx470, rod in the middle of ignition cylinder broke. I disassembled the bottom half of the cylinder that turns and can now start it by putting the chip key in the ignition, and sticking a screw driver in the bottom piece and turning it. Dealership said 1200-1500 bucks to replace WTF!:mad If i had stupid money like that I would not be driving a suv with 200,000+ miles on it.

i am looking for any ideas to bypass the ignintion cylinder and be able to start the car without looking like I am hotwiring it. Anyone have any ideas?
