Hi a friend of mine recently said that he does not like domestic autos because They need v8s to be fast I immediatly replied japanese imported cars need a source of forced induction. Listen to my theory (even though it might hurt) a 2001 Z06 vette has 385 horses thats 48.5 horses per cylinder the NON-turbo supra has 238 horses thats 39 horses per cylinder so even if they make a 8 cylinder supra it will only have 317 horses. In other words toyota needs forced induction to be fast. -Jesse 1994 z28 T-turbo

hp/cylinder is not accurate enough. hp/liter is the best way to compare things. so with ur theory a 2002 Z06 puts out 405 flywheel hp from a 5.7 powerplant. thats 71.052 per liter. if i use your earlier example of the 01 which has 385 thats about 67.543 hp/liter. a NON turbo supra puts out 238 hp(per your info) and i beleive they are 3.6 liters so thats 66.111 hp/liter. thats actually kinda close. considering they stopped making the supra back in 98... a 98 supra TT puts out i believe 320 which is 88.888 hpliter. considering the 2jz engine just craves boost like a mofo known to handle up to 30 psi with stock internals id say even tho im a chevy guy that we r actually a lil behind. u can make a supra a lot lot faster a lot easier than a v8 chevy. its just a built race car. and the 3s-gte engines the turbo mr2s have is basically its lil brother. the 3s-gte is used in the castrol supra(i think) and in the Escudo Pikes peak car which is awd 80psi 900+hp

chevy engines are no slouches either but GM still uses old technology mixed with new tech. toyota goes beyond that. i also think u r forgetting about the wieghts of cars. camaros mustangs etc with v8s literally do need v8s to be fast considering the heavy ass characteristics of those cars. imports are mostly lightweight compared to domestic cars. u should pick up the new edition of super street or something like that. A racing team from GM took GMs new ecotech engine which is a 4 banger and made with strict emissions in mind and on basically stock internals boosted it dynoed over 350 hp. they played with it a lil more forged internals etc etc and stock block made 600+hp. hows that for a 4banger GM engine!!!

these companies will just go back and forth. people are really partial to what kinda cars they like best. but even i must admit hondas fords etc can be made fast. hell any car can be made fast as long as u got the $$$$

BTW ur sig states u got a 94 camaro Turbo???? if u do u have to show us some pics dude. info on what turbo kit and stuff too!!!! later

I dont know much about the escudo all i know is that that lil thing moves. but i do know that it has a v6 twin turbo powerplant. ive moved on from the z28 i now own a 98 jeep wrangler (kids on the way) i do miss my Z i should be coming to tampa in late july from new york. and yes the twin turbo supra is a sweet ride. but i read somewhere that a natuarly aspirated supra was putting 420 horaes with out NOS. thats not bad. but it all comes down to taste but i will always be a bowtie man my dream car is a 69 camaro SS with a 502. -jesse

Horsepower per liter is definately better than hp per cylinder but even thats not the whole thing. Weight and gearing keep stock MKIVs running in the 13s even at 109mph!

More info.. a 93 non-turbo makes 220hp from a 3 liter engine so thats 73.3hp/lt. The 93 twin makes 320hp from a 3.0 giving it 106.6hp/lt.. or one and a half times more hp per liter than the 2002 Z06. Even the older Supra non-turbos made 200hp (from a 3.0) giving it 66hp/lt. I wonder what kind of hp/lt Chevy and Ford were making in 88...

And yeah the Escudo has two engines. They imported Escudos to the US from 90 to 94 too.. just badged here with a slightly different name... Suzuki Escudo around 1990 or so

You are all also leaving out one more important factor... COST. The 5.7L pushrods are produced cheaply. Hell, a Z28 new is still cheaper then half the decent shaped supras out there that are almost 10 years old. Sure many Jap cars pump out high HP from a 4 cyl, but they cost a pretty penny too. Tech takes, money. GM chooses a different route... displacement. I mean I now own a 3SGTE with 20g turbo and a slew of upgrades, but I still don't believe that imports have any "efficiency" over domestics.
