Default mr2 tranny help...

man, this transmission is hell to put on!! i've got the input shaft into the clutch disk already, but it doesn't want to go on all the way. i've tried wiggling it like crazy, dropkicking it, etc. but nothing is working. i bought slightly larger bolts, but the bolt holes are not lining up right. anybody have any tips/tricks on getting this thing all the way on? or does anybody have some time on their hands to help a playa out....

Watch the dowel pins, sometimes they get messed up, or don't line up right, etc. Also, I usually put a small amount of grease on the input shaft to help it slide in a little smoother.

the dowel pins look fine to me. is it a possibility that the e153 tranny isn't compatible with a 1st gen jdm all trac 3sgte? because its not going in all the way.. but then again this is the first time i've ever attempted to mount a tranny together with the motor... this has got me stumped for now

make sure the tob is greased up real good too. is the motor still in the car? what are you doing with a 1st gen 3sgte ?

also, if you didnt use a clutch center tool your splines mite not be lining up right.

it looks like this

yeah, i was sure to grease the t/o bearing. the motor is still out of the car. i got a good deal on the motor from 2ksnakeater on this board, so i decided to use it for my build. i was sure to center the disk as much as possible with the alignment tool before i tightened the pressure plate down... the disk is really hard to move with everything bolted down though. any other suggestions?

When you did this clutch, did you change the flywheel? Did you use the centering bearing on the flywheel? If you did, you may want to remove it, make sure it fits the input shaft on the transmission.

I have dealt with this from time to time and you have to get everything lined up just right to get it on easily. If you have the engine and transmission out, you can try laying the engine on the timing belt cover side with some blocks of wood to hold it steady, clutch side up. Then, lay the transmission on top and wiggle till it goes all the way on. If it doesnt go on this way, then there is definetly something wrong.

If you are out in Valrico I could check it out on Sunday or any evening during the week. I don't mind.

yea, i took out the stock flywheel and i put in a brand new fidanza FW. you know, i was thinking about laying the motor on its side and trying that, but i was afraid i might damage my cam gears or something. but i would appreciate if you can stop by this sunday or something. i stay right off of valrico and 60. i really need this thing running soon... let me know what form of reimbursement you would accept, whether it's cash, beer pizza, etc. lol

wow lol, funny you mention that. i was the one who pulled that motor out.

your motor is attached to this chain behind me on the right lol

you did tighten the clutch with the alignment tool still in right? i assume you have a engine hoist correct? you mite find it easier to to bolt up the tranny while the motor is in the car.
