Default after a year, its almost done...

well after getting the timing set (it was a pain doing by myself, even with the motor out) i dont have that much left to do until i put this into my mr2. im hoping for around 340-360whp with this setup. gen1 3sgte block w/ gen 2 head, ats td06 w/ 550cc rom tune, mcs motorsports fully built head, ems powered IC kit, and a bunch of other random crap. here goes a pic:

still piecing together the swap, but i hope to have it running within the next month and a half. what you guys think ? and yes my garage is a big mess...

Very nice! I'm betting you'll make closer to 320-330whp at 17-18psi on the td06, 550cc/min's and pump gas.

Stock intake manifold is a choker as well as 340ish whp being at the safe limit of 550's without going into excessively high duty cycle.

Good luck! It's nice to see some good setups being put down in tampa.

yeah well i've got the phenolic intake spacer, but i guess after i dyno it i'll start looking into other intake manifold options. im really liking the new jm fabrications manifold, but im waiting to see if it will clear the trd bar.

I like the manifold ATS has put out, as well as Manning's; especially for setups that are going to stay under 400-450whp. The plenum is the biggest bottleneck, so going with a larger plenum coupled with actively controlling tvis to produce better mid-range torque is where i'd go.

But that's just my $.02,

Good luck with the install!

with the bigger turbo there is no telling how good or bad the intake "bottleneck" will be,the question to me is"how much boost will the td06 give you and is the rom tune matched to the injectors and the turbo?"i tmay work well like it is,but if it doesn't you may need to go standalone or at least integrate an e-manage.

Do tell how your logic on that one is? The stock intake manifold is poorly designed for higher HP. The runners are decent enough, but the plenum is not. Anyone can make "power" with the stock intake manifold, but you have to run the turbo harder to do so. His horsepower goal of 340-350whp is quite optimistic, since 1: you'll need to push the turbo a decent amount (~20-22psi) and race gas, and even then you're pushing it with 550's. And 2: Aaron detunes mail-order tunes. The only 350whp anythings to come out of ATS rom tunes have been on very aggressive tunes done in-house and on the dyno, and even then Aaron has backed off the tuning before the car was released for reliability purposes (360whp initial tune, 330whp when it left the shop).

again:software has to match the hardware...i was more or less saying that a rom tune might not necessarily be right for his particular setup...i know him,his car has been down for a year and i'm pretty sure he will be very excited just to get it on the road...which,beyond all this technical "maybe" is the original point of this thread...it had a 5s in it before now...

From your post, I got the implication that you were saying the manifold isn't a "bottleneck". Which I can assure is not the case.

I'm not saying his setup is bad. I'm sure he'll be more than happy with his new setup and new-found power. A 300whp mr2 has quite a bit of spunk to get you around.
