My brother was driving the car on the highway and heard a 'loud pop' at which time he noticed a 'strong smell of fuel' and the car subsequently lost power.

Car would not re-start at roadside.

Noticed no spark upon ground at plug boots, so replaced distributor cap/wires and rotor button and regained spark.

All vacuum lines inspected and they were good. Fuel lines also visually inspected.

Still no start.

Tried to replace what was thought to be faulty fuel pump, but ran into some problems.

Noticed an empty threaded area on the head by the fuel pump. Anything supposed to be there? Here is a pic:


Upon replacing the fuel pump, broke off this part. Anybody know the name for replacement purposes? Pic:


Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

 

2nd pic is a fuel regulator???
