Default Hard start when hot

Howdy all,
Figured I see if some of you yota guys had any input. I have an 85 Corolla with a 1.6L Carb engine. I really don't have much of a history of the car before I got it and not really hip to yota's in general, but here is what I've done and whats going on. The car had a blown head gasket that was just replaced and the head was resurfaced so all is well there. The carb has really been giving me alot of issues with bad idle, hard starts etc. and I decided to rebuild it. After the rebuild the car will now run pretty smooth going down the road, the idle is great but after driving it and shutting it down I turns over alot before starting, when it does start its sounds and smells flooded. I have tried both holding the accelerator wide open and not touching it at all, holding it open seems to help a little but still very hard starting. Any idea's I should look into next?

Thanks,
Rich

When the head gasket was replaced all the belts were too. I'm wondering about the Idle Stop Solenoid now, the car will diesel like hell when shut off so I'm thinking it might have something to do with that. I can't find any information on the solenoids for testing them yet.

Did pull the Solenoid off the car and put power to it, its free moving inside, but does not totally block off the flow when power is cut. I think this is a bad part. Not sure if it will cause all of the problems associated or not. For $22 from Autozone I'll give it a shot and let you know what I find out Troux

Ok its been a little while since I've been here but found out what the problem was. The secondary solenoid was bad. I stuck open all the time allowing a bunch of raw fuel to bypass and go into the secondary side of the carb. To test it I soldered the end of it up to seal it and put it back in the carb... Problem gone! Since then I replaced it with a new solenoid and now just need to retune the carb for best performance...
