Default toyota buying help?

my eclipse is POSSIBLY totaled out. i'll know what the insurance company thinks tomorrow. but theres a very good chance that its totaled out.

so basically. i'm looking to get a toyota as my next car. preferably a celica. hopefully a 5 speed. and nothing older than a 94 (moms rules about the 94 thing)

because the goal is to spend under $4,000, i know i'm not going to have much luck finding one in perfect condition, or with under 100,000 miles on it. and so far the only Celica's within price range that i've looked at are STs.

with all that in mind, what do i need to look at before considering buying a car?
what problem should i expect it to have? (ya know, with over 100,000miles & for the cost of under 4gs)
is it a bad idea to get a celica as my first manual car?
any advice on what style of celica i should be looking for? (ST, GT, GTS ?)

basically. any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

please&thanx.

too bad it has to be 94+
1994 TOYOTA CELICA
not bad for a 94.

if it has to be a 94+ i would a gt with a bhg and do a 3sgte swap on it.the 3s goes for around $1500 - $3000 depending where you get it.and the car would be around $2000 with a bhg.get some friends and do a motor swap one weekend.
