another 20v rolla rearend issue
I recently posted looking for a megsquirt tuner, and following the advice I;m trying to track down ryan from toyota tampa. Anyway I figured out the megasquirt, had an alright 20v map adjusted and the car is running surprisingly well. Way to go taylor another solid build. The bad news is during the extended swap i reassembled a used gts kouki open diff. i knew it was out of spec but at the the time was too concerned with getting the motor running.
Damm to ITB's sound sick. [LIST]Anyway, I leave my daily at Taylors to pick up my boy john (used to be b16racer i think), the humm of an out of spec rear is present and drastically increases as we approach taylor's. I decide I have to drive it home, and will then install a solid pinion spacer...bad idea. this is sunday night, we get on I4 it starts raining real hard. however im just happy my rolla is running maybe a mile past orient road on ramp in left lane the rear goes..... like taylor predicted it would be totally seized and i should only be driving at a speed i was comfortable handling the situation. I guess i should have higher expectations, we were goin at least 50 i start sliding, john handles not getting rear ended and somehow we stop on the left side right above 41. I wasnt too shaken up but john was like woah i was on the phone with chris valle (rainforest) and i thought we were gonna watch you die. ahahhahhaha bad news is i pulled the rear apart the pinion gear is a lil torn but possibly reusable, the front bearing is cool but the second bearing on pinion is thrashed. the pumpink is filled with sheared off gears (where an lsd would be - the gears in the middle supported by bearings and races on each side - i need to look up the name)i took photos to post but i think its toast. at least my car runs. i do have a spare sr5 rearend to use in the meantime, but rumor is you have to be super gentle, more importantly i suck at installing shoes - too many damm springs.... so any input out there, funds are sort of low although now would be a good time to get an lsd. i imagine i have to post photos before anyone will predict the likelihood of reusing the ring and pinion. drop some knowledge kids
