lookin to eventually get away from the 4.30 in the auto.. what was in the 5 speeds somethin like a 3.9? were there any others offered or more importantly interchangeable with the MKIV? didnt seem to find any aftermarket ring and pinion sets.

 

3.7, 3.9 & 4.3

4.3 is great for drag racing.

mk4 doesn't interchange

There are a couple aftermarket gear companies that make stuff that will fit but somebody else will have to chime in on those.

87-88 turbos have 3.91 and 89-92 turbos ahve 3.73s 5spd or auto, all NAs have 4.30s

 

awesome, a 3.73 would be what i need to look for. good thing you pointed out ALL NA cars had a 4.30 cause i was about to start looking for a donor 5spd NA gear.

 

just to note. if your looking to swap a whole diff its one thing, but your going to swap ring and pinion then know you cant just pull out and put in, theres alot of alignment to do
