first of all this is not a toyota bashing post so dont read it like one... honestly does anyone here drive a fast gts (new body?) i test drove one a few weeks ago and was disappointed by it. i know that there is a bad azz turbo kit but have not seen anyone around town with any real mods? it just seems to have way too narrow a power band to pull after 2nd gear (the six speed drops the vvtil range from 2-3 shift).

im a celica fan. i own a 92 and i plan on picking up a 2000 in the next couple of months. i think nobody pulls more hp out a 4 cylinders than toyota...but when it comes down to it it is still 4 cylinders...for better or worse.
i do think the gears are screwed up though. youd think w/ 6 gears they would get it right but i dont know what is up.
still i like the styling. took a while to get used to but i like the hard lines.

thats my thoughts.

Alright...one more thing.
I just saw on the celica boards that Toyota has discontinued the 6 speed GTS for 02. apparently they were having mechanical difficulties and they were sorta just a marketing gimmic anyway.
Rumor has it that a properly spaced out 5 speed would actually be faster than the 6 speed (in 1/4 mi. at least) but that it will hurt fuel efficiency (since theyll be missing the overdrive 6th gear.

What version Celica do you have? If you are big Celica Fan you may be interested in this my friend Eric has a 93 Celica Alltrac. It is very rare 1 out of an 81 total production run. So far hes got a SPAL fan on the IC intake boost controller and stillen crossdrilled rotors. His plans are a front mount IC wide wheels and tein coil overs.

yeah i heard about the tranny change too from stadium toyota. from looking at the gear specs the 5 spd will prb be better plus they might have the vvtl-i dropped a little lower by then. from what i hear they setup the 6spd just so they could pull 60 in second without redlining. the 0-60 might drop a little but the 1/4 should be better

About the 6spd debate...now im hearing that they may not be discontinued... who knows. well just have to see how it turns out later this yr.

Ok I have a 2000 6-speed GT-S. What do you drive to be disapointed with the car. It does take some getting used to. And even though the powerband is narrow I have outrun cars with a better powerband. My car can hang REAL close to a Integ Type R. Actually the GT-S will launch better but the R will catch in 3rd. I can pull in every gear except 5th on a Prelude with CAI and AEM pulleys. All I have is a hollowed Intake and AEM Pulley kit. The car is a VERY quick car if you know how to drive it. Civics and Integras with Intake & Exhaust (except Rs) dont stand a chance. Unless youve spent thousands on your car Im likely to outrun most other 4 cyls. GST eclipse with exhaust and blow off valve (all i could tell it had) could keep up with me but not pass.

Id be happy to meet up with you and show or race!
Peace
Ryan

i have an ls integra but when i drove the gts the only mods i had were i/h/e and jr charger. it makes about the same power as i did at the time but the curve was alot different and i was pumping more torque because of the charger... im sure if i was driving a stock teg i would have liked the celica more than i did... and if i had to go back to driving stock i think i would cry. if were ever at the track ill run with you although now i pull alot more than i did at the time...
