It's a pretty straightforward swap if you're staying NA. Besides the wiring harness and passenger side motor mount (which you can buy now), it's a bolton affair.

They're all pretty easy, the 5VZ, 1MZ, 3MZ, 3VZ. It's a different animal if you want to turbo it though. I forgot to list that you need to fab up an exhaust as well with all these engines.

I've actually got a 5VZ turbo MR2 so I know what I'm talking about.

Tell us about the 5VZ you got... I have an MR2 shell, and I want some N/A power. Which of these engines is the best HP for the dollar while still being easy to find and install?

This info would help a lot of us out...

The 5VZ is a good choice for a boosted motor, but if I were going to go NA and you want the best bang for the buck, I'd go with the 1MZ. The torque is awesome on the V6 compared to the stock engines.

1MZ-FE
The 1MZ-FE is a 3.0 L (2994 cc) engine. Bore is 87.5 mm and stroke is 83 mm. Output is 168-190 hp @ 5200-5400 rpm with 183-193 ft·lbf of torque at 4400 rpm. Horsepower ratings dropped after the Society of Automotive Engineers implemented a new power measurement system for vehicle engines. It has bucket tappets and was designed for good fuel economy without an overall performance trade-off.

The 1MZ-FE was on Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 1996.

Applications:

1994–2003 Toyota Camry
1999–2003 Toyota Camry Solara
1994-2003 Lexus ES 300 & Toyota Windom (Japanese domestic market)
1995-2004 Toyota Avalon & 2000 Toyota Pronard (Avalon for Japanese domestic market)
1997 Lexus RX300 & Toyota Harrier (Japanese domestic market)
2000 Toyota Estima (Japanese domestic market)
1998-2000 Toyota Sienna
The 1MZ-FE with VVT-i is used in the Avalon, Highlander, Sienna and Camry. Output is 210 hp (172 kW) at 5800 rpm with 222 ft·lbf (328 N·m) of torque at 4400 rpm.

Applications:

2000-2004 Toyota Avalon
2001-2003 Toyota Highlander/Kluger
2003-2006 Toyota Camry
2001-2003 Toyota Sienna
2002 Toyota Alphard (Japanese domestic market)
1999-2001 Lexus ES 300

What year do you recommend? What about the transmission? Which one do you use?

well on Mr2oc.com most people are using the stock turbo transmission and axles Honestly if i were to do the swap I would put a beams motor in it but 1mzfe is nice too not a big fan of aluminum blocks so if u are to turbo it I'd say 3vzfe. its gonna be a fun car if you do it.

I sent you a PM yesterday about it. If your willing to drive to ocala for the swap, we'd gladly do it here at JAP Works. weve already got a 3vz and a 1mz swapped sw20 driving around ocala.
