Default 2006 corolla help

My girlfriend has an 06 corolla with the 16 valve vvti motor. It is shifting rough and the check engine light is on.

When you run the codes it comes up with the code

P2716

Pressure control solenoid D electrical fault (SSV SLT)

Probable causes
1. Open or short circuit condition
2. Poor electrical connection
3. Failed shift solenoid valve SLT

I checked the grounds on the tranny case and both are tight, both connectors are tight, even though I could not get the connector off that does not connect at the shifter.
The fluid is at the correct level and looks/smells good.

Any ideas? Are the shift solenoids known to fail, or is it a bad electrical component

Get an ohm meter and check the solenoids.

Where are the shift solenoids at? I'm used to tranny's with the solenoids inside the case. And am I just checking for continuity or is there a range?

Solenoids should be inside the case, inside the valve body. Im just guessing i've never worked on these cars but it's what I would try. Yes, check the resistance of the solenoid

Default Code P2716 Transmission shifting rough

Hi, I have an 06 corolla, 37,000 miles. Exact same thing happened. I took it to a dealer, Turns out it was covered by the 6yr/60,000 factory warranty. They replaced the ECM. It took half a day, and was free, which was cool!
