1988 supra turbo need help with situation
i will....
sounds to me like the guy saying screw 7ms has probably never done a 1j swap or really ever owned a 7m.... and if he did own a 7m he probably modded it and broke it and then blamed it on the engine.

look all M series engines are known for the BHG(blown head gasket) problem the 7MGE's in my opinion are the worst for it. Now the fact that yours blew a head gasket in it is nothing new but the reason its got a rod knock can be casued my several things but most likely from the fact that you put synthetic oil in an i dont know wut year your supra but at its NEWEST 21 yr old car. synthetic oil has detergents in it that clean everything out. if you had a buildup that was blocking leaks internally in your engine the synthetic oil cleans them out and casues all kinds of leaks which PROBABLY caused you to lose oil pressure which PROBABLY caused your rod knock. as for the 7M 1J issue you are gonna spend a WHOLE LOT more money to put a 1J in your car then you will with a 7M. Hell my boy is at 4G's to put a TT 2J in his SC300 THAT COMES WITH A 2J IN SEVERAL COUNTRIES AND WE SWAPPED IT IN OURSELVES. not to mention wiring it is not easy especially with toyota using so many differernt diffs and speedo gears for everything to work properly its gonan cost money. Just go with a 7MGTE you can get front cuts for like 1300 bucks and if ANYTHING goes wrong you can go to your local autoparts store and get the parts. plus its an M series engine so mounting it in will be easier than the 1J. you should really check out celicasupra.com and get the facts about both engines and swaps.
Now on topic 2 of the supras im mike and ive owned 21 Supra wheels 17 14x7's and 4 15x6 L-Type Supras. i have never paid more than 60 bucks for supras. im not gonna pay 150 for supras with tires im gonna throw away cuz they wont fit on anything PROPERLY but a ford ranger or any other small pickup with 14's. why dont you jsut take 60 bucks and make your money on the tires back on ebay or even sell them to a used tire shop or even in the tire for sale section. i mean youve had them for sale for a while. im not trying to be an ass but 150 for 14's that came FACTORY on supras 21 yrs ago come on. the 4 i have on my car now i paid 40 bucks for with bad tires and all they needed was cleaning.

thanks for the info mike but you can have them for 100 bucks i am also with celicasupra.com because my previous car was an 1985 toyota supra p type but mike if you know people hook me up man
not according to that last post he doesnt...
1) he prob got rod knock because of the bhg. the coolant mixing with the oil will contaminate the bearings and quickly destroy them. this is the main reason why people who get bhgs and do quick fixes end up with rod knock shortly thereafter.
2) 7MGE's are actually MUCH LESS likely to get BHG then their turbo counterpart. lower cylinder temps is the main reason. however moreso kids modifying and slapping a mbc on the turbo car and upping the boost without proper up keep, therefore detonating, and therefore bhg is more likely the cause nowadays. obviously the low torque of 56ft lbs from the factor doesnt help much either.
3) the 2j comes in the sc300 in na version in the US too. swapping in a tt version is not hard whatsoever.... swapping in a 1jz into the mk3 isnt necessarily hard...its actually rather simple if you have any knowledge of cars and wiring. what do speedo and diff gears have to do with ANYTHING? they will all work together. in fact the US version of differentials is better suited for the 1jz then the 4.10 torsions they come with in japan. the lower 3.91 and 3.73 diffs of the turbo US cars are better for the high revving 1jz gearing. the wiring takes about 2 hours if you know how to read diagrams and can solder.
4) i dont know why you would need an entire front cut to put another 7m in your already 7m equipped mk3? just buy a jdm engine OR IMO your better bet would be to rebulid your current 7m. this way you have a brand new engine and not a beat on used jdm one you dont know the history of. i cant tell you how many times ive seena jdm engine get bhg and rod knock within a month of being installed. they just dont take care of them over there because they dont care. and um newsflash the 1j CAME IN the mk3...so mounting it is as simple as mounting the 7m (granted he would need to get either a 89+ crossmember or the BIC mounts to use his current crossmember.
5) celicasupra.com isnt going to help him much since he has a mk3...he needs to look at Supraforums.com and supramania.com ..... you saying that makes me wonder if all this info (at least the relevant info) is you thinking he owns a mk2 but he clearly states 88 which is mk3. even still a lot of your info is incorrect completely.
sorry for the long post but i just needed to clear some things up.

of course with even a tad bit of knowledge i know that the US SC300 comes with an NA 2J(AS DUH I SWAPPED OUT ONE) now you say its not hard whatsoever to swap in 2JZGTE into a Lexus SC. Well you must not have read the wiring diagrams and all of the several shops around the country's failed attempt at wiring everything to make it WORK LIKE FACTORY including the famous toysport. About how you have to have a USDM harness(priced at a cheap $800 from toyota) as the JDM harness is useless, how none of the exhaust side components work with any american exhaust components but im sure youve done this several times and are an expert.
The speedo gear thing was related to if he had a MK2 as IF he wants his speedo to work properly he needs to make sure that he has the right speedo gear again relating to topic 1.
AS for the rod knock i said PROBABLY as it COULD HAVE BEEN A CAUSE.
but the reason its got a rod knock can be casued my several things
