How 2 Chosse A Camshaft
So My Question Is How To Pick A Camshaft Because Every One Tells Me Different Things On How To Chosse Them But I Dont Want To Have A Camshaft That Disables Me To Ride My Car On The Street. But I Also Want To Have A Broad Power Band Without Having To Replace A Bunch Of Stuff Just Springs Or Retainers Not A Whole Valve Train Because Its Not In My Budget (about A $300 Budget).so Im Thinking On A Comp Cam Camshaft Cause Its Cheap And Has Had A Great Reputation Behind Them (by The Way I Have A 22r Toyota Pick-up From 1986).
Your valvetrain will limit you in your cam choice in this application. Gather ALL the valvetrain info you can find about your application and present it to a QUALIFIED engine builder. Now only if we knew one of those...

aww twenty two R, torquey motors.
Id say post stock camshaft specs first
THEN post specs of cams you come across.
With higher comp cams they are recommended to be mixed with higher compression pistons.
Whats the condition of the motor? > untouched, some work into the head? fully balanced and blueprinted? < that will make a big difference in how safely your motor can rev.
Hows your car/truck run now? white smoke? black smoke?
Condition of carb. < will more then likely have to be rejetted to suit new cam, and to get the most out of it.
Whats the stock redline.
rememebr:
durations equals how high the cam will allow the motor to rev and where the horsepower is going to be.
LIFT> is how far the valve comes off the seat, determines how much power the cam actually makes.
If i remember correctly the 22r isnt really high comp.
YOUR BEST BET IS= go to paradiseracing.com and call them they have experience with almost all toyota motor customizable in history,
4age,3tc,2jz, 2rz,3rz, 22R, 4ac, you get the idea. He is a professional nhra driver so getting in touch with him can be difficult during race season. But when you get a hold of him ask him as many questions you can come up with.
You can also try THERACINGSTORE.COM for 22r parts or call them and ask questions,
> BRDRACING.COM they mostly deal with 3tc motors ( pushrod 4bangers) they can prolly help you out with the 22r tho too. wouldnt hurt to ask around.
