Unhappy need help with ae86 fuel pump now!!!!

ok the fuel pump on my ae86 gts it ghetto rigged and i need to fix it. right now it just has some random wire that goes into one of the harnesses under the dash from the power source of the fuel pump. the pump wont turn on and if i plug it into the normal plug in it still doesnt work. so what could i do to fix it? im thinkin i just want to run the power wire under the carpet to a switch and then from the switch to the battery so when i get in i just flip the switch and im good. will that work at all? please let me know soon.

something about gasoline and electrical wires suggests to find out how to do it back to stock. If this is some hybrid concoction, I suggest calling the person that sold it to you, I'm sure he left out that part of the description
