My daily driver finally called it quits on me at around 150k miles.. its still running but supposedly the engine is shot. It was checked out by toyota and they said oil sat in it for too long and is now thick enough to break in pieces.. and therefore it either needs to be cleaned out of the entire engine.. (if thats even possible/worthwhile) or just trashed.

Well the body of the car is good and I'd like to just swap the engine... so Im looking to get some info on where I should buy the engine and who locally would do a good job for a good price.

So far I've checked out jspecauto.com where I can get an engine with low mileage and a 6mo warrenty shipped in just a few days for about $1200.
This seems like a pretty good deal.. and was about what I was expecting based on my memory from when I used to know more about the subject.


So assuming I go with this company or a similar one.. where would be a good place to get it installed? Anyone on here have any personal experience with a reputable shop? Are there any shops that order the engine as well on their own?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, Im looking to do this very soon.

If you're going to put a 3sgte in there i would definately not recommend that company, you need a clip. IF you're going to put another 5sfe into it, that is rape for that price.

Want to save $1200? Pull the oil pan and clean it out yourself.

The bottom of the pan is where the oil drained to, then
it sat, then it hardened. It might not be as bad as you imagine.
and very likely, it did not universally coat the entire engine insides
with hardened oil.

and what do you lose by checking it out anyway?

what year camry and motor? Ive done a few swaps with the 5SFE motors. Its not a problem to do it just depends if my boss wants to take it on.
