Default 3SFE as a 5SFE Replacement for an NA MR2?

Last year my NA MR2 developed rod knock on the way back from Clearwater and was subsequently placed in the garage. I am now getting around to starting the rebuild process on the car, developing it as a daily driver to compliment my 94 Z as well as the G35 I am looking to pick up this year.

So, that being said I have no desire to do a 3SGTE swap, I'm simply looking for NA reliability. In doing some rebuild research for the 5SFE I came across several people who had opted for 3SFE's as replacements for the 5SFE. I'm curious if anyone locally has any experience with the swap.

Here are two threads that I was reading over on Toyota Nation in regards to the 3SFE in the MR2.

I agree, 3SGE is your best bet. Just make sure you get one that came out of an MR2, with an engine harness and ECU. I can help you find one and install it, if you need assistance.

I had a similar problem with my MR2 and would like to know if a 3sfe from a camry or other could be used to replace my 5sfe and would there be less changes to be made if I didn't opt for the turbo. With my long list of tickets, speed is not my concern. I just want my MR2 running again soon and the 3sfe seems far more plentiful.

thread is 1 1/2 years old...but the answer is yes...it's the same stuff, the motor mounts are a little different from fwd to rwd but you should have the right ones if the engine is still in the car...send me an im on yahoo or aim and we can talk about it...
