is a rwd conversion on a 82 toyota tercel sr-5 possible? its fwd, but the engine is not transverse mounted. so im wondering, t-50 tranny with custom mounted rear end (ae86 or somthing like that) and modified drive shaft. and whatever else is needed. anyone have any ideas?

That same chassis came 4wd, with what looked to be a rear end from a starlet. (I could be wrong). Find a wrecked or rusted one in a junk yard and make it an optional 4x4.

so being that its the same chassis, it will more than likely already have the holes punched out for the fittings for a rear end? and im pretty sure almost all 4 cyl rwd toyotas came with the t-50 tranny right.

well a couple of things. not all RWD Toyotas came with the T50. they came with A40 W40 T40s W50-W58 and a handul fo other trannys. the Tercels 3A is the same 1.5 liter out the AE85 LEvin in japan. so you get that motor and an AE85 Bellhousign and your pretty good as far as that. if its a K motor out of a starlet and older corollas you can mate a T40 or T50 to it. AS far as the rear end. im retty sure that car never came 4WD as i have researched this. the later TErcel 4WD wagon doesnt share the same chassis. If you wanna try to do it your gonna have to either MAKE SURE it can bolt up, make your own rear end brackcets and frame mounts, or use an IRS Rear from a Celica GTS an get s hop to mod it on. no matter what its gonna take al ot if time money and modification. personally i would dump the 3A and drop a 3TC in it make your own crossmember and mounts as well as the fornt suspension set up and drop a celica rear and build the 3TC. as the 3TC is capable of insane horsepower as well as parts arew available hwere they are not for the 3A. just my $.002
