intercooler ?'s
hey, wut up guy? i have a 93 mr2 turbo and was planing to make my next investment a upgraded intercooler.... But im not sure which one would be good and also price efficient.. yea, im sure alot of u r goin to tell me to get a greddy, but i jus dont have the money for it
! ive looked all over and cant find one under 500.... u can call me cheap but im not lookin to pay over 350, is this a reasonable price range? and if so where should i look? THANKS ALOT GUYS!
Yeah, you have to spend some change to get a good intercooler. You could just upgrade the intercooler fan and spend your money on other things. You are not making enough power to heatsoak that intercooler yet anyways I don't think.
Right. The money would either have to go to a nice spal fan or two to keep the stock i/c cool (which really isnt that bad), or to a crazy cheap custom intercooler job (???) or to something else.
I would say dont worry about the intercooler until you have upgraded the turbo, or are planning to do so. Right now it will be fine to leave it with the stock ct26.
If you are concerned with intercooler/saftey, you could look into water injection, as that might be more in your price range.
Read this, then re-read it. This will tell you exactly what you need to do to start out making SAFE power on the 3sgte.

the mr2 is a fairly rare car with manufacturers even fewer as opposed to other platforms, so prices are gonna be higher on stuff so these companies and actually make SOME profit. I say for anyone that doens't like this reality to either leave it stock, have high risk, or learn to fabricate and build custom parts, not trying to knock you, as i'm not that well off and don't like the high prices either, but willing to cope.
"cheap, fast, reliable, in this hobby you can two but usually not all three"
on a side note, i've emailed bryan at berktech not that long ago, he said he had the hot pipe and IB->TB pipes fabricated, and is in the process of getting the elbows done plus shroud. I personally am skeptical that it'll be better than the greddy, but since i plan to keep it to 280whp and less with the ct27 i plan to install next month, should be fine. I think he also said in a thread that it'll be around $550? expected release mid to late november.
When I was planning ahead....waaay ahead.... (Thanks to Mr2Driver)
For my Gen 3 swap I saw many I.C.'s for sale that were either used and kind of beat up or very cheap...yet questionable..
Assuming you're still relatively stock...I would think of your power goal..
To me, it didn't make sense to spend the money on a nice car and then hold back when upgrading it.
I think if you plan on making it a beast any time soon..get a Spearco..It comes with a fan shroud already welded on and includes a 7.5" Spal fan, Couplers, etc.

I'm glad I did.
If you don't plan on going all "hardcore" yet...then don't listen to me lol
