Orion, you've got a lot to learn about upkeep of vehicles.

Dont forget its not just the price of the MKIV.

Its the tires that you go through every 5000 miles
Its the insurance that you get SLAMMED with because you are young as HELL with your FIRST CAR, that is SUPER COVETED by thieves, that is REALLY POWERFUL, and that the insurance companies KNOW is capable of MASSIVE horsepower with little modification.....

I dont have to go further....

I'm guessing that if they even insure you at ALL that it will be at least 5K every 6 months for coverage with any sort of comp on it... You cant make that sort of money... believe me...

Havent checked the insurance rate for me specifically on a MkIV, but I have on DSMs and MkIIIs, and thats just for Progressive (which isnt what we are going to use)

Right now I'm worried about getting it. Later will come insurance, mods, and maintenence (tires, oil, spark plugs, fuel filter, etc.)

Btw, 5spd = W58 = N/A MkIV not exactly uber powerful

This is not a good way to think..... Many a people have ended up way over their heads starting with that sentence. This happens with homes, boats, airplanes, just about anything that has serious upkeep....

He is in a catch-22 right now, needs a job to afford the car. Needs a car to go to the job.

SO.. lots of people need that 25psi.

The thing is if the car takes 1K to maintain and the job makes 1K then its worthless.

What he NEEDS is a car that DRIVES ON A ROAD AT 80MPH MAX. Then he can go to work for what work is for... MAKING PROFIT.

Spending all your money on a car from your job is STUPID. The purpose of a job is to MAKE money, not to throw it all away into a trash bin and leave yourself no room for emergencies, or play money, or food.

No comment on that power part, seeing as you probably wont either. W58 on the MkIV may be stronger, but more its more than likely it wont be as robust as the V160. I think I'd get a Hilux/T100/Tacoma and 7M-GTE swap before I got a MkIV anyways as of now.

Let it be known however that I am easily entertained, I dont need more than 80mph or 20psi to pretend I'm going "fast". Also, my driving habits for the most part will not completly change. Unlike many others, I dont chose between full brakes and WOT to get around, in fact if anything I'll go too slow around regular town (always in the right lane, and Venice is much smaller than Tampa keep in mind)
