MR2 Piston too big, now what?!
I must be some kind of an a$$, cause I spent a lot of money on some JE Pistons and Rods for my 3SGTE and didn't even know what the specs ment:
BORE: 3.4055
Stroke: 3.365
Rod Lenght: 5.433
Comp Height: 1.378
Piston Weight: 343
Compression: 8.5:1 with 1.0mm head gasket and a bit lower with a 1.4mm
I thought this was a direct, replacement for my stockies, but went to put them in this past Saturday and they were too big. The damn pistons dont fit in my freakin block!

bore out the block-duh
if the pistons for your engine are correct- they go in
unless you got oversized pistons for your engine---"FOR YOUR ENGINE"

its not that big of a deal
but since your gonna bore it its gonna need more fuel and air- but it also means your gonna be able to turn the boost up
if your gonna put pistons in you should bore it anyways just so you dont have to do it later

of course i would never buy just pistons anyways - i would only go with a complete bottom end kit
so what im gonna say is

You should bore it anyways just to have clean cyl walls for the new rings to slide on..
Chances are these are standard .030 over pistons.. The diference in HP and boost level and all the stuff said earlier is going to be totally negligable due to the stupidly small displacement change from a standard rebuild.
most if not all pistons sold these days are at least .030 over size from "factory installed" stock units. Hell even the pistons you buy at DEALERS are all .030 over since you have to bore a block to rebuild it properly anyways..

The pistons are .20" overbore.
If I go through the trouble of putting these pistons in, I would end up with less compression. I would go from 9:1 to 8.5:1. The only way I could benifit would be running more boost.
The problem is.... I'm going to be using my stock turbo, ECU and intercooler for a while cause I've run out of $ and time. So what I fear is that my car would be slower using these pistons untill I invest in those three parts mentioned above. Correct?
I think I'm going to clean up my old pistons and simply replace the rings and drop it in the motor. Although they looked kinda burnt, I didn't see any heat cracks in em. So they should be ok.

well the car wouldnt run well...
But its a better idea than reusing stock pistons, why bother all that labor just to put in old pistons... Sounds to me like you need to let the car sit for a while until you can solve your issue by boring or sell your new pistons and get more.

I ran into this problem 3 years ago. The JE shelf piston actually raises the compression in the 3s-gte. That's why I didn't buy the shelf piston...but since you already bought them, I don't know what to tell you...maybe ebay them and buy a custom set.
