Timing belt snapped?

I'm sorry, I don't really know what the problem could be. You may just have to get it towed somewhere...

Default might be the timing belt...?

A friend of mine has an 89 celica which died while he was driving. It restarted and ran for a few miles and died again and would not start. We checked wires, fuel pump etc. I then checked the timing belt by pulling the upper timing belt cover to the side (I was initially too lazy to remove the belt covers completely) and the belt looked fine. However, when we removed the covers completely later on, it turned out to be the timing belt - it was really worn but it was still held in place pretty tightly - it just wouldn't turn properly.

ok, it has a timing chain not a belt. my brother has a 85 celica GT-S rwd also and his car did that same thing and it ended up being a bad relay. so go to the junk yard and find another celica and take all the relays so you can swithch them out.

sounds like a relay. if the problem was intermittin like that, is soulds like a relay. check all of your fuses, and relays. circuit opening, fuel pump, efi,....

um, i still think its electrical, if it was a spark plug than it should still run on the other cylinders. well you might have fried the ECU? turn the key on and check with a multimeter if your getting power to the fuse boxes, fuel pump, coil, etc.

Bill,

What is the difference between chain/ belt? Do timing chains need to be replaced?
