Default Cheapest/Smallest Single turbo mkiv supra setup?

What's the smallest/quickest-spooling, cheapest single turbo setup for the Supra? Something just one step up from the twins, say 550 rwhp.

I was hoping there was some low-cost alternative that not many people knew about, so I could convince a friend to move up from those silly twins with their funky spool.
But, he already knows about the sp57, he showed me the kit the other day. I guess it costs a bit more than I thought it would to step past BPU in the Supra world.

Hmm, good point, most Garrett turbos are pretty cheap to rebuild from what I've read. I'll bring that up with him, give him something to consider, though he feels his goals can be accomplished with the stock twins. Those will go out eventually, so it'll probably happen in time if it doesn't happen soon.

the stockers arnt bad, but they are not as good as a well matched single. you could find a greddy t66 kit for 3k and less on the forums. or buy the cast single manifold from suprastore and use a garrett t4 and get some pipes made at a good ehaust shop.

Yea Turbonetics makes a cast log manifold and so does RPS I believe. They are for the MKIV Turbo to convert to Single. You'll still need a bunch of piping for the intake and exhaust. Cheapest would probably be around $4-5K for the kit + install plus tuning.
You said your friend was looking for 550hp? I hope that is on racing fuel or with an upgraded fuel system because that will probably not happen with the stock fuel system.
