How much would you pay for..........
Another question, do all auto's have the manual/etc button by the shifter? Also, how labor intensive is it to change the timing belt?

Water or oil pump need replacing when your in there, not that it would be bad just as a precautionary measure cause you already have the front cover off.
Also, someone asked me this and it got me to thinking. How hard, easy, or often is it to roll the milage back on these cars. I don't think this guy did, but i'd like to know some of the signs to look for just to double check to see if something has been tampered with for my peace of mind.
And thanks for everyone's imput without jumping all over my case as i'm sure a few of these questions have been asked before.

a 94TT with 80K is low mileage. If you get it for anywhere under 20K then thats a steal. We were quoted 19,900 on the 94TT with 108K miles, automatic and we sold it in that price range. It's not hard to roll it back.. but the odometer is electronic..... not going to post much info up about this but there is a way to stop it from reading miles for an amount of time.

Is there anything on the car that i could check to see if tampering might have happened? The milage checks out with no red flags with carfax, but i want to be sure before i blow my wad so to speak.

Check for VIN numbers, every MKIV has the VIN number on every glass and fender..
first, open the hood, check both fenders where they connect to the chassis for the VIN, check passanger and driver door windows, they will be etched on the bottom, rear window has it on the passanger side along the side, both rear quarter windows will have them on the bottom, the windshield will be on the driver side, and pop the trunk and I believe it is going to say it on the passanger side around where the strut is. Good luck man.
If any of the VIN's are missing that is probably because the car was 1, broken into, or 2, in an accident that did not show on carfax.

I think you misunderstood me. I was speaking of how to look for signs that someone may have tampered with the odometer.

I haven't heard of anybody ever finding out that happened or anything like that. There is no way to tell unless the car is an OBDII and it would throw a speed sensor code, but thats is easily cleared. If the car is in good shape I don't see a problem.
and still... check the VIN's
