2JZ into MKIII???
You think the reason the back of the hood had a larger than normal gap was to let the accessive air buildup in the engine compartment a way to relieve itself more efficiently? The sup's are notorious for having poor engine compartment venting at higher speeds. And most extremely fast cars you see have a way to deal with the tendency for the compartment to act as a sail of sorts by catching all the air at high speeds. You can vent it or you can prevent it from comming into the compartment to begin with.
Please note this is just a theory of mine and might not be factual, as i do not know a lot about supra's. This is just an opinion based off of information i have gathered from other race cars in the past.

Good try on the theary but not correct. spacing the hood in the back is for cooling. i have the hood on my corolla spaced. lots of road racers have there hoods spaced. Bubbleheadm3 has the hood on his road race fox body mustang spaced. just for extra air flow for cooling. i dont know about the mk3 2j swap that lofer is talking about but the spacing on that car should be for the same reason. the 2j is not any bigger then a 1j or 7m so spacing to fit should not be needed.
i remember kirk losing a motor from low oil, not sheer horsepower. if the other motor was lost from knock... thats a tuning issue, not an inherent weakness of the 7M.
ive heard people laying down 400 rwhp on stock pistons. ive heard up to 813 rwhp on shot-peened stock rods. JoeyK laid down some impressive numbers on a bone stock long block and stock HG torqued to like 120 Ft/lbs or something outrageous like that.
all i gota say is, keep your motor tuned for ZERO knock and youll be just fine. and keep 10 psi of oil pressure for every 1000 rpms you go. you wont have any problems. people will tell you stories upon stories of high HP 7m's eating rod bearings. the ONLY reasons rod bearings will fail is due to lack of lubrication, poor lubricant or excessive knock... or if the engine builder is a complete dumbass and installed the bearings improperly. to make good HP, the 7M needs a metal HG and studs, new intake manifold, new exhaust manifold and bigger compressor wheel. the cams are fine and so is everything else... just keep good oil pressure and no knock. the stock oil pressure and oiling system is not sufficient for high HP on the 7mgte...at least, not for me. i want 60 psi of oil pressure at 6000 rpm.
oh, and this coming from people who have actually performed the 2JZ swap:
the tranny tunnel on the MK3 needs to be hit only in two places. right where the bell housing bolts to the gear case is where it needs extra clearance. and the shaft of the gear shift that enters the tranny needs to be shortened by ~1.25" IIRC... simple cut and weld. it may not be so simple for people who dont know how to weld though and can be a gigantic obstacle. search on Supraforums and weedout the bullshit... youll find input from people who have actually performed the swap.
