Can we get this back? It just disappeared again...

 

I'm new here and I've never seen it.

When I try to manually get new posts I receive "Searching has been disabled." Interesting.

 

Searching has been disabled, it has been causing very large lockups on the site/server so for now, it's disabled until we work out what needs to be done to fix it.

 

cant tr disable some other function instead of one of the most used options? or is the search or new thread options that is causeing all the problems? just asking?

 

the search function is what is causing the issues, there are almost 4.5 million posts for it to index and search through. Sure we could trim it down but all the cries of "oh noez my post kownt!" would be deafening.

We are lookin at it, it's not a simple solution we may have to change how/what is index'd and how it is searched.

Hence why the new classifieds was a good thing, it does things differently, but as it stands right now we are just heaping shit on top of shit because the Forsale section is just flat threads/posts and is adding to the problem. But hey, it's so simple a fucking 2 year old could use it right.

 

Screw the post count!!! I don't even think I look at that. Hell I delt my for sale thread when I'm done anyway, and I know that lowers my count.

 

THE REAL QUESTION IS:

Why the hell would they remove "search" when that is how we find posts we have made and are able to delete and edit them there....This search disabled thing is the fuckin stupidest thing TR has ever done and I cant even use this site without it.

Searching is how imformation is found and all this is going to do is increase the number of REPEAT tech threads that are posted. This site is officially not a "tech" site without the search.

Can we just have a TR-beta!? Taking up server space for stupid applications reallllly is annoying.... A "FORUM" should be just that, a FORUM!

we didnt disable search just for the hell of it, we disabled it because it is causing problems. Problems that are not trivial to fix. No matter what we do to fix it there are always ungrateful fucks like yourself unhappy with it.

As for selling out to sponsors and the like, do you have ANY idea the amount of time and money needed to keep this site working? Hardware is not cheap, and hardware looks like it's going to be the answer to solving the search problem. You got a spare $5K laying around for a new serveR?.. did you donate to TR?

It's just common sense isn't it.... dissable search=get new threads on same shit over and over... Now doesn't that also require that $5k server...or no? just a question, please don't e-rape me this time....
I'm just a user with a question and I thought admins were supposed to explain not get heated and call their users unappriciating fucks.
I have used this site for 5 years and have loved it, and very much appriciate it, that's why I'm upset you have disabled the most used function of this site.
