Stripped Stud Removal
Need some help. I have a stud on my vf43 that is completely stripped (14mm nut won't thread) and cannot seem to get the damn thing off, even using PB blaster, heat and vice grips. Problem is, the turbo is already on the car and don't want to remove in order to break the stud and replace. Any ideas on backing the stud out while the turbo is still installed. For reference, it is the #1 stud that is stripped. This image is just for reference.

When Brian's (bcs925) vf39 had a stripped stud, I took a dremel and and ground the threaded part into a rough square shape and then used a pair of vice grips set so that you really had to use A LOT of strength to get them to lock and was able to get it off within an hour or two. BTW, mechanic's gloves work well in reducing the pain caused by squeezing the vice grips at that setting. Also sprayed the hell out of the stud with PB Blaster.
All of this was done with the turbo still on the car, just made sure to use some tape to cover all of the openings when grinding (turbo outlet, turbo inlet, throttle body).

buy a new turbo, its not worth the hassle... or just do a lot of drinking during the removal... that was our problem we werent drinking...

When I stripped out my shifter, I just took it to Acutek in Largo and they fixed the threading for $10. I didnt even take the shifter out of the car.
Also, I ran my VF39 with only 4 out of 5 bolts connected for forever without a single exhaust leak.

Is the stud part of the turbo? If so, cut it, drill it, install a helicoil and a high-grade stud in there.
Running 4/5 bolts is okay, but I wouldn't do it if I had another option.

I had enough threads on the stud in order to get the nut to fasten. There was no way that stud was coming off without just cutting and drilling it out. Thanks for your replies.
Oh, btw, the vf43 and Invidia uppipe are installed and car is running sweet

I've running 4/5 on my WRX, #2 (on the OP photo) turbo internal threads got mangled when I replaced my downpipe. Can't get anything to thread in there. I'm waiting for the smell of fresh exhaust wrap to burn off before I try to figure out of I have an exhaust leak or not. Which of the 5 are you running without Chrome and WRX Kid?
